• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

P3D v2 3ds max export memory error

What you use for textures in Max really doesn't matter, as only the names are exported anyway. However, if you overload Max with massive textures in .psd format, you are using up a LOT of your systems memory for no good reason...

...which may not leave enough free for the exporter .dle to do its job. Either re-save your .psd files as .png, or resize them to something more conservative such as 1024x1024 to reduce the memory consumed while in Max.

You can of course leave your textures in the sim at the same size you have now.

Why are you running a 32bit Max9 instead of the 64bit installation?

Hello :) im using the 32bit version of max 9 because iv had it for quite long when i was still running XP i had it installed and that's basically when i started learning how to use 3ds max so i never really thought a 64 bit version of max would make a difference....its really weird iv never had this problem before...but i suppose as you start amping up the complexity and texture sizes of your models this is the problems you start running into
Bill has a good point. See if you can download Max 64 bit.

As a rule of thumb that I learned from my Gmax days, do not export with your textures 'on' or visible. Export in wire-frame view mode. This helps massively. I remember a maxxed out Gmax scene wouldn't export if I so much as 'opened' the view textures mode. I had to close out and return to Gmax in wire-frame mode 'only' and export, or it didn't have the memory to export.

If you have Max subscriptions, you can download the 2014 3DS Max and use the 64bit version SDK. ;) Just a heads up. If you do not have subscriptions and cannot afford it, then never mind. (Who can these days).

i will surely look into downloading the 64 bit version of max :) as for max subscriptions let hope my parents don't see the bill at the end of the month

If I recall correctly, you should be able to choose 32bit or 64bit when installing. But then again, I've only installed in once and that was several years ago, so I might be all wet...

Further more. In case you're a student, you can get a full working version from Autodesk for free(currently 2012/13/14) to use for three years.

i have the 3ds max 2013 student version and i love it!....untill it stopped working after a windows update :( its the best version of max iv used very nice lighting capabilities

The exporter will only work with 32-bit Max 9, whether you're using 32-bit or 64-bit Win7. The 64-bit exporter is only an option with Max 2012 or higher.

Well yes Tom, that is true for the FSX SDK tools. However the free Prepar3D v1.4 SDK has 64bit tools that will work just fine for either FSX or P3D...

In fact, since there's no difference in the .x or .xanim files, I export using the v1.4 tools, then compile for FSX with the v1.4 XtoMDL.exe and the same .x and .xanim files for a true P3Dv2.x set of model files.

You can re-download it from Autodesk using your accnt number and install it again. I did that when my PC gone down

Er, did I miss a trick here? Is the 64-bit exporter available for Max 9 and 2008 too? Smacks head if it is! :oops:o_O

Edit: No, it isn't. BUT, the old 65K total limit is gone with the 1.4 sdk update and the revised XToMDL which can page its workings with huge models out to disk is available for Max 7 and up. Since I'm using Max 2008 this is a big plus. :wizard:

I must have been half asleep last time I read the release notes... :coffee:
