• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.

Ok, before i get started here are few things all users must know:

This scenery is for FS2004
I am using 3ds max 9

Sorry, that was just to make sure i get the answer on this perticular subject.

So, I have 3ds max 9 and started working on my EGBG scenery, again from scratch, for use with flight simulator 2004.

I have the Pandasoft .x exporter plugin but I seem to be getting an error whilst running the .x file through the fs2002 makemdl, this error is:

Running model

Start! (C:\fssdk\MakeMDL_SDK\egbgground.X)
Loading X C:\fssdk\MakeMDL_SDK\egbgground.X...
Processing...
ERROR: Scaling null has a translation, ignoring it
Model units are 2.00 units/meter
Sorting by Material...
Optimize Parts...
Generate BGL...
Done!
Assembling: C:\fssdk\MakeMDL_SDK\egbgground.azm
C:\fssdk\MakeMDL_SDK\egbgground.asm(30) : error A2071: initializer magnitude too large for specified size
SCALE_AGL(6): Macro Called From
C:\fssdk\MakeMDL_SDK\egbgground.asm(30): Include File
Error!

However, this still leaves me with the .asm file for tweaking, so I do the shadow, CAT and layer tweak and run it through BGLC9 but then no BGL gets created at all.

How many of you guys are using 3ds max 9 succesfully to create scenery for fs2004?

I've never used Panda myself, although some fellow modelers I knew years ago did, but...

This has nothing to do with Panda, but is critical for ANY modeling done with Max or GMax...

Model Units must always be 1 unit = 1 meter...

Model units are 2.00 units/meter

So, before you go any further, reset Max 9 to use "1 unit = 1 meter." This will save you no end of grief down the road with you wondering why your models are 2x expected size... ;)

I've never used Panda either; I assume you have checked out the Wiki here about it http://www.fsdeveloper.com/wiki/index.php?title=Exporting_from_3DSMax_using_Pandasoft_plugin

I noticed that you are using the FS2002 makemdl.

The Wiki only mentions being compatible with the FS2004 makemdl.

Regards, Mike Mann

Ok, ran it through FS2004 MakeMDL but still not getting the proper .asm file for the layer tweaking, I do get an .asm file but doesnt let me tweak it as needed for ground polys
