• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA 3DSMAX export to what???

Hello guys,

up to now I knew that I can export MDL files from GMAX so that I can use them in FSX.
Recently, I got 3dsmax and I can not help but wonder how do I export files compatible with FS?

Is there any way I can use the FSX gamepack with 3dsmax?

I mean there's no MDL option there..........

Peter

EDIT: Sorry, I found a solution!! Let some moderator delete this thread!

Peter, you'll need to be using one of the compatible versions:

Max 7 Max 8 or Max 9 or Max 2008, set up with the ACES tools.

Sadly newer versions are not compatible with the toolset.

There will be an option to export a FlightSim X file, which is what you want to export.

For scenery, simply parse this to X2Mdl (drag and drop will do ... Bill will be in to complain about this advice, shortly)

EDIT: Just saw your EDIT.

So what's wrong with this advice?

Hey guys, I'm using 3Dsmax 2011 but I just discovered ModelConverterX.
I can work fine with this program!

Is there anything wrong with this?

As above ... It is not compatible with the FSX toolset.

Use Max 2008. Autodesk should let you use this as part of your subscription.

As state, Max2011 is useless for FSX modeling. Period.

ModelConverterX isn't much use unless you have a compiled .mdl to work with.

Why is it useless? I mean what can't you do with the newer version?

You can not export an FSX model, which for anyone wanting to be a modeler for FSX, makes it pretty darn worthless, IMHO.

You have been told this at least three times in this thread... :duck:

Thanks for the advice guys, probably I'll get the older version as well
