I finally went out to the airport and got some photo sets for textures, so the 5B2 project has begun... Here are a couple pics of some GMax work, this field is small, just 2 small runways, but some quaint feel, and Im going to do the best I can to make it home-ly and warm... Ive got sat textures for it, but not that high of a resolution... Just a bit more res than visible in the gmax layout poly. (which isnt much)...

This is slated for FS9 Freeware but there are plans to have it converted to FSX. The construct will be set for an easy conversion (by someone else) i.e. 100m node distance, etc etc... but no FSX promises....

Thanks... the attached images are compressed quite a bit, i think ill link some from another place, that way they maintain a higher crispness... but its early... the screenshots arent going to look too spanky yet... i'll keep posting some goodies with the progress...

I havent used either of those.... just looked at the usgs site... cant get it to operate well... the imageshack didnt seem like a satellite spot, but i didnt look to long there either...

I cheated, and blended a yahoo and google image and a third i cant remember where it was from to make it look detailed and colored... but it still isnt a high res image to begin with...

Thanks...

Here is a couple more shots... nothing fancy, but currently working on details... objects, etc... thinking of bumping up the res on the runway, its 512x512 now for the base block, and its a tad blurry (soft) when in plane and in position, taxing onto runway, etc.... i may try 1024x1024, but that means making it from scratch, as resizing down works, but up, not so good :D

also, here is a shot of the fuel farm... trying to make it look as detailed as possible without killing poly counts.... (i hate cylinders!!!)

Rwy Texture update....

Increased size of runway textures and completely re-worked base textures... i dont have comparison texture screenshot to compare, but I think the new textures look better... i still may tweek.,..

Posting a couple screenies of the taxiway texture... not as impressive as some of the othere developers shots ive seen just today... wow, some of you guys have some crazy looking ground textures and such, im extremely impressed

im also still working on the grass grainer... i tried the peek-through method, but couldnt get any degree of contrast with this method. plus the edges was a pain to lineup completely, i spent hours trying to hand paint the masks, and it still looked like junk mixed with crap....

heres a couple more... taxilights are placed for reference, they will be moved and lined up correctly when i get to the taxilights... working on making the ground look satisfactory....

Couple more object/sign screenies.... think I need to make the taxiway signs 20% larger, but, as most of us do, I'll fiddle with it.... just messing with the signs, its a balance between detail and fps/polys.... nothing fancy, just making the tedious signs and such...

enjoy, thanks for looking...

If you hand over the gmax source to someone else, they can make a native FSX version for you. And wow this looks great. I do get a being at home feeling, I love your work! :)

Good news.... one of the fellas I fly with has his gmax goodies setup for fsx output, and has offered to convert it... so, there 'should' be a version for fsx! this airport I did make more of the objects fsx friendly and not dependant on fs9 specifics, like rotate to user, etc...

I do, however, have no eta on this conversion...but YES, all material WILL be sent to Dusty (Nate) for conversion for you fsx folks!!!!!
