• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

... a LONG Way to Go

Some more detail including different colors for different surfaces and the start of being able to draw taxiways. The more I work on this stuff the more I appreciate what a great job Lee did with AFCAD. There are still a number of things he managed that I currently have no idea how to handle :o

No one said it was going to be easy ;)

Lee did an extraordinary job.

You may have to do it the way Lee did it.

What I mean is the very first version of AFCAD (FS2002) only added parking spots, sized them and link them to a runway.

He would then release that version so everone could try it.

The next version would add something else which is the same as the way you release SDE.

Lee used the old PAI AFCAD web site as his way of releasing different versions to everyone for feedback. AFCAD was a on going project and never was fully completed.

AFCAD was a FS2002 program and it used symbols for the graphics. The GUI is not showing the actual taxiway or a runway but a representation of one with a simple link line. That would say the art work in the GUI is actually owned by AFCAD and not FS.

When FS2004 came out he kept the art work in place and applied XML to it.

I will e-mail you a very early AFCAD document that shows the GUI symbols used by AFCAD in its design stages for FS2002.

Thanks Jim. I would very much appreciate the documentation.

I am planning to release a version of ADE shortly. At the moment it is display only so not selecting, reading porperties, moving, deleting and so on.

My Graphics engine can handle all those things but first I want to be sure that I can draw the airport elements in their correct relation and to an accurate scale.
