• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA adding stands or groups of trees

Using ADE for FSX how do I add a group or more than 1 tree to my airport??:confused:
Also more realistic. The last ones I added were over 400' tall:eek:

There is no group add facility in ADE at the moment. However objects can be copied and then pasted as many times as required.

As for height check the scale value in the object properties.

You could use Sketchup to make a group of trees from 3d Warehouse objects. Export dae, ModelConverterX, then LibraryCreator to make a bgl you can add file to ADE library objects. And finally use ADe to place them on your airport. At least, that is what I would try.

I have read a few places that the alpha channel will need to be edited or you will see a silhouette around the tree texture. IDK if this is true, just remember reading it.

Instant Scenery 2 has a "Group > Copy" and "Group > Paste" function. You can select hundreds of objects at once and paste them, remarkably you can rotate the entire group as a whole with the mousewheel prior to committing the placement with a mouse click.

A better alternative though in my opinion would be to make a photoscenery and use the annotator to add autogen trees. Less performance impact, seasonal vegetation, and you can paste 1000 trees at a time if you want to.

Jim

Add them using the autogen annotator or add tree groups. If you look in the default vegetation library there are individuals trees or groups, might be called "mats".

Wonderful suggestions about annotator. Most likely he, I and others have no idea how to use annotator. Many of us have tried to read and understand the SDK instructions.... rather difficult. Bob

Indeed, it would be nice to have a way to more easily implement autogen for freeware sceneries by folks who do not wish to deal with as much complexity and learning curve as required by the FS Autogen SDK and recent 3rd party autogen utilities.

All that complexity and learning curve is a necessary evil required to enable autogen system controlled seasonal vegetation texture changes, however. :o

But for placing conifers in the more popular flying areas, there is usually no seasonal changes required for those who do not insist on having a hard winter seasonal display with snow on trees etc..

I like Jim's practical suggestion with Instant Scenery version-2 (which works in both FS9 and FSX) ...for copying groups of trees to build up an area.

By comparison, FenceBuilder Pro can create rows of ex: trees with variation ('jitter') in placement parameters as to type, size, heading etc, but... it does not yet allow creation and fill of polygon areas.

So, instead, one can use another option for FS9 scenery library object placement: Scruffyduck's very capable "Scenery Maker" included with the LOM_200_Beta update for his excellent Library Object Manager for FS9 (aka "LOM" )

...You may wish to download all 3 files for the LOM "legacy" Scruffyduck utility (while you still can !
) at: http://www.scruffyduckscenery.co.uk/

...Then navigate: > Scruffyduck Download Center > ScruffyDuck Utilities > Library Object Manager > LOM_100, LOM_100_3, LOM_200_Beta.

Pages 86 through 96 in the Scenery Maker 100.pdf Manual illustrate creating a polygon and filling the area with randomly placed objects (ex: Trees ;) ).

Although it doesn't vary their heading, it does allow you to pick a mix of different tree types and vary their sizes when filling the defined area.

Advanced users might then opt to decompile the output BGL, and process the *.XML file to substitute out the FS9 GUIDs for ex: trees via a crosswalk table ...for conversion to ex: FSX GUID trees.

Hope these options might be of some help as well. :)

I use Whisplacer to add vegetation in larger quantities. It has a Poly tool which is very useful. You can choose a selection of objects (vegetation in this case), set the density, set a random heading, and a size variation.

I've attached the selection screen. If I want more of one particular object, I just add it to the selection more than once. To make it easier to choose objects, you can place a selection of objects first, then select them in Whisplacer, and the Add Poly form will be populated with them.

The example I've shown is not really the way I work, I tend to vary the size for different types of vegetation, so I'd do overlapping polys with different settings.

The density is a bit tricky, I can't figure out the algorithm, but if it gives too many or too few I just undo and try again. It will warn you of the number of objects it will add if this is large, though.

So you end up with a random heading, random size, random model (from your selection -- you could just choose one tree here) in just a few seconds.

Hi Rob:

Excellent info... many thanks ! :D

I had not yet taken WhisPlacer for a test drive; now I'll add that to my FS Developer's "Tool Belt" !

I use whisplacer for all my tree group placements, works great for creating large patches of forest and single lines of trees as well. I wish the "Random" placement option took into account the proximity of other tree objects, because most of the time they just end up clumped together atop each other. So I just use the parameter to distance them all a certain measure and then go in and manually drag them around to create a tangled forest rather than an obvious grid of vegetation.

Note that adding a lot in the Live Preview mode will have a heavy impact on frames. For some areas I need to compile out as BGL, load into ADE and compile out the airport and reload in the sim so I can start with a clean slate in Whisplacer

I guess I have Java run time thing - Whixplacer opened up- found my FSX and ran the load.

then I get the image thing and a website where to get the downloads ()or else no images will be seen). It looks like a link but does not act like one. click on it and nothnig happens. opoen IE and typed it is manually- website cannot be found. ..... Of course.
so Whisplacer is totally useless to me. Tell ya to go to a website that doesn't even exist anymore. guess I'm too late.

This site starts off with a number then ic and then something like nerim.net . did a search for nerim.net- everything is in French. Maybe I typed in things wrong. Bob

Hi Bob:

Regarding the relocated website for Lamont Clark's excellent contributions to the FS Community, they are now at:

http://lc0277.gratisim.fr/

Whisplacer and linked documentation etc., is at:

http://lc0277.gratisim.fr/whisplacer.html

Lamont's "other" software is at:

http://lc0277.gratisim.fr/software.html

However, you may wish to use some of the links I provided above in my edited post: ;)

http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/showpost.php?p=631362&postcount=10

PS: I didn't follow what you were describing in relation to getting the Java Run Time Environment (aka "JRE") installed; could you please explain more clearly what issues you may have in getting this installed and running properly ?

Re: autogen annotator

Hi,

For those that do not know how to use the autogen annotator, Luis Feliz-Tirado wrote a document on how to use the autogen annotator, called "How to use the autogen annotator". You can download it from Avsim (search for "How to use the autogen annotator"). It may help:).

Wonderful. thanx both will do. This is the message- see screenshot. atached.

Hi Bob:

You may wish to take another look at my edited posts above, download and install both the WhisPlacer utility itself and the appertaining WhisPlacer Thumbnails package, then see if any error messages still occur.

If any messages are displayed which link to the old web site of Lamont Clark (aka "lc0277"), use the new addresses at the French "Gratisim" FS site that I linked to above. ;)

Saw the dl but thought that was only the app not the thumbnails as well. Will go get them now and will delete the one I have.

-------------

ok- found the thumbnail package. dl ing it now. If this does not work I will delete all and start again with the whisplacer package at the link posted. btw- version I have is 0.9 and the simconnect with it is .8

after download I found I had the default library. saved the download one just in case.

No instruction sconcerning the thumbnail install - assume that may be in the manual. I merely moved the thumbnail folder into whisplacer folder with the rest of the folders.

Must have been correct. Whixplacer seems happy.. no error messages. Whixplacer opened up fine... I am ready to really screw things up now! hahahaha! thanx for the help. bob
