• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

Adding the landing light fan beam to models

I found that I can add the fan beam landing light effect (fx_landing.fx) to any aircraft model - example is the trike ultralight - using the attach point editor. However, I cannot see how to connect it to the "L key" landing light switch. I am also adding Shockwave 3D lights but they have some discrete ripple/banding effects from the cockpit view that aren't as realistic as the fan beam. I like a mixture of both. I also have tried the freeware 3D lights from deltastudio but that still has the ripple/banding effect. Any way to hook up the attached effect to the "L" key? Thanks for the help as always!

The "L" key is NOT "Landing Lights." It is "ALL Lights!" There is no keyboard command for "Landing Lights" only.

I forgot to say that I was using MCX to add the fx_lighting.fx to an attachpoint - and without adding a polygon, it works fine as a fanbeam - except that I can't turn it off at night. I'm also sorry that I confused some by talking about the "L" key (BTW Ctrl-L is the standard Landing Lights only key). What I meant was that I couldn't use a key or a joystick button to turn on/off the fanbeam like you can with most models that use it.

Bill there is a keyboard command for landing light only....CTRL + L
And i think panel too. FSX added 1 more than FS2004.

You can create your own switch. If you use visibility on your light and use the landing light effects you can control it with your switch. This way the light is always on. Your switch will show and hide the light giving you control.

Please explain

You say you can make up your own switch. How - I don't have/want to use GMAX/MAX. Just have MCX development version. Any hope? Please explain how with some detail.
