• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

ADE Not Saving XML File

I am updating a project for someone and want to make sure the XML file goes with the package when I send it back, however regardless of how I set it up in the options menu it never generates an XML file. Any suggestions?

Hi Ed:

AFAIK, all edits are saved into the ADE airport project *.AD4 file, and a *.XML file is only created when you compile the airport project to a *.BGL.

The path into which the *.XML file will be written is determined by the path assignments in:

ADE Menu > Settings > Options > {Project} tab > Save XML

Have you already done a (test) compilation to a BGL ...of the airport project ? :scratchch

Hi Gary,

Yes, I've done numerous compiles to bgl that are assigned to go directly to the Airport/scenery folder. Here's the rub, below is how the "options" menu is set up. I would expect that the xml file and other project files would be dispersed as assigned. That's not the case though. . .it took some searching but eventually I found the xml (along with every xml generated since last year) in a totally unrelated airport folder.

Glad you found it; as age marches on, this utility makes finding things a bit easier: :wizard:

"Everything

Locate files and folders by name instantly
"

After a few minutes to initially index the NTFS Master File Table, afterwards one can search for *.XML *.BGL etc.

Then one can click the resulting column headers and wait for it to sort by date to find the latest file output etc.

Hope this helps in the future. :)

One more question along these lines. . .once I complete this work I'll be sending the finished scenery to another individual for final release (ground texture, autogen vegetation, ADEX files, scenery objects, etc). Related to ADE only though, what files will he need in order to make any adjustment he might want to make (in ADE) without eliminating the work I've already done? I want him to be able to load my ADEX files so he sees everything I've done then make any corrections he deems necessary and output the final files for use in the scenery.

Your ADE project file should handle that. He can load that into ADE see everything you've done, modify it or not, and then compile for the final product.

Yes it would. He could also use any background image you placed under the airport and displayed in ADE (if any).

Also, if you created any custom ground polygon textures he would need those.
