• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Blender Advice? Chain-link Fence - Exporting Instances for MSFS2020 asset library

I created a chain-link fence in Blender for my airport scenery after following a YouTube video. It's perfect for me. But, a 10' fence of 2" wire mesh spacing, 20' long equates to thousands of polys by simply duplicating the first string. Considering how much fencing I need to use in my scenery, I could be creating a virtual slideshow of the sim by this asset alone.. I know it is important to keep the poly count low, so I was relieved to learn about Instances in Blender. However the tutorial video falls short of the export process. I have a question, how do I combine all instances as a run of fence and successfully export them to my library? As they each have their own collection, and there are 100's of them, how do I combine them into a single object I can export? Much appreciated.

In the meantime, I found this video to be a very helpful alternative method of creating fences in Blender, Thank you Mamu! The only setback for me might be that, the location of my airport in Google Earth (a former air base) has been both reclaimed by nature and over developed throughout the years ,with only faint outlines where runways used to be in the 1940s. I'm sure I could take a screen shot of the current state of my airport build in the simulator from overhead, scale and trace the fencing perimeter, like Mamu has demonstrated here.

Hello there, from that video we had a nice addition in the Scenery Editor

You simply need to create a single fence piece

Then

Look for VectorPlacement in the Objects window

Select your fence model (or any of the available ones), and draw a line just like you do with painted lines, the lines will populated with a chain linked fence (or any other object you want, like light poles, cones or such)
