• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS20 After latest update, lighting is “mirrored”

I’ll try to provide images later, but after the latest update I noticed that all of my spotlights not only point down, but they point up also. So much so that they can be seen through the roofs of my open hangars.

I created many buildings & hangars with spotlights. Previous to the latest MSFS update all of my lights were showing up correctly. I loaded an “older” version of my airport into my Config file and it’s doing the same thing as the later airport. I suspect MSFS itself, not something whack in compiling the airport.

Anyone else experience this issue?

Thanks,

TB2

All spotlights point 180 degrees.

Seriously? When placing a spotlight in a model, you can set the direction and adjust the “cone” to broadcast in various directions and size of the cone. I‘ve never had an issue prior to the latest update of the “cones” pointing in any other direction other than where I place them. I’ve never seen them broadcast in both directions. Perhaps other “light” sources, but not spotlights.

I cannot speak to your experiences. This screen capture was recorded before I released my Subi Reef Naval Air Station addon in November and it clearly shows the backwards shining spotlight. In this particular instance, I decided it was the equivalent to Hollywood's lights inside space suit helmets and since this particular patrol would never have to spot Vietnamese frogmen, the backlight serves as a scenery enhancement.

That’s interesting. I’ve not noticed that before on any of my models. I was thoroughly pleased with the results! Wish I had captured some images of it working properly. I wasn’t able to see the lights though the roof either.

I’m sure there’s more to come on this subject but would like to hear from others concerning this

Thanks for the reply

OK, maybe try this and let us know. In subsequent conversations the technique has not been mentioned and the bipolarity has been taken to be unavoidable, but I'd prefer to be mistaken.

Apologize for the “bipolarity”, was never my intention to be so. It’s difficult to present an issue and not be taken as being rude or sarcastic sometimes ( unless I paste a bunch of laughing faces perhaps?).

I do appreciate the replies and the link above! It’s entirely possible that I have symmetry enabled! I’ll fool with it in a day or so and report back.

Attach the model or just the glTF and end the guessing...

IMHO, "bi-directional lighting" might be a more appropriate term for a thread intended to be focused on troubleshooting. ;)

Oh, and 'laughing' emoticons can indeed be useful in a type-written forum (AFAIK, that's why they were implemented).

The apology is mine to make!"Bipolarity" was a poorly chosen way to refer to the light direction and I am probably way too serious sounding. Just so everyone knows, the sim is a game to me, this should be all fun and games and I will always encourage the same. If anything ever seems otherwise, it is probably due to my odd sense of humor. :)

My bad, LOL!!!! :):):)

When "bipolarity" was mentioned above, I thought my "attitude" was in question. LOL!!!! :):):) Guess I'm way too sensitive this morning.
I too have an "odd" sense of humor. And I do thank all for the feedback.

I'll update soon. (and check my attitude. LOL!)

Ok, THANK YOU Rick K! That did the trick! (And I was so quick to blame Asobo / Msoft!).

I removed the symmetry on some lights and they returned to their original glory. My hat's off to you!

Now I have a lot of work to do!
