• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

P3D v4 AI afterburner and smoke effects

Since P3Dv3 there was a change for effects that makes the old afterburner and engine smoke effects more or less useless.

The symptom is the same in both cases. While looking from nearby, the effect looks pretty right, but the more you increase the distance, the bigger the effect appears.
So afterburner will show up like a big doughnut or fireball, while smoke effects pile up as a big cloud.

Has anybody a tip what needs to be changed in order to avoid this?

Thanks!
Martin

Okay, I have spend days with smoke effects. I did changes that improve things a tiny bit (rarely) and changes that completely destroyed the effect (almost always).

In fact I am exactly where I have started.

Does anybody know any smoke or afterburner effect that works well with P3dv4?

From mobile hence short

You might take a look at the FSDT FSX Blue Angels Hornet v18.2 for the effect you desire. You'll have to download the whole plane. Then you can install it to an empty "temp" folder, I believe. The effects will be located in an Effects folder under the Temp folder you're using. If it won't install to a Temp folder, just install it to the correct P3D sim location. Then, go to your Effects folder and tell it to sort by Date Modified.
The newest effects files will be shown first, that way, and you can pick out the AB effects. Then you can open them up in your favorite editor, and see how they differ from the ones you're working on.
You can find the download link in THIS POST. look down about 1/2 way through the post for the link, just above where the pictures start. It's pretty obious. Remember, the one you want for P3D v4 is the v18.2.
Hope this helps a little...
