• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

AI Flight Planner Version 1.58(c) Released

Not open for further replies.
AI Flight Planner Version 1.23 which corrects a minor problem in Version 1.22 and further enhances the collect airports routine is available.

Version 1.22 introduced a new airport collection routine. However, it contained a minor bug that prevented distance/duration/ETA from being calculated when the new AirportList.dat was used. Any AirportsList.dat generated with version 1.22 should be replaced by one generated with this new version.

Don

Due to a coding error, Version 1.23 tried to collect stock airports for both FS9 and FSX even though one might not exist.)

Version 1.24 corrects this problem.

Don

With all the changes I made in the collect airports area, I thought I should clean up the code before a general release. Version 1.26 is the result. Please report any problems, no matter how minor.

Don

In response to a recent request for an Aircraft List generation feature and to enable easy updating of aircraft cruise speeds which may have been adjusted to avoid the "37 minute" problem, I have introduced two new features:
  • Create a new aircraft list from FS9 and/or FSX aircraft folders, and
  • Restore aircraft cruise speeds to their aircraft.cfg values.
Both features are available in Version 1.32, available here.

Hopefully, a few of you will download and test these features for me.

Thanks in advance,
Don

I have uploaded Version 1.33 to the support website. It is functionally equivalent to Version 1.32 but has a much-improved user interface for the new Aircraft List features.

I'd appreciate comments on the new features.

Don

Version 1.34 has now been uploaded.

It resolves a problem with time zones whereby the UTC offset was not found for airports in countries which were immediately preceeded in "timezone.dat" by a country whose name was the same as the beginning letters of the name of the country of interest (e.g, "Dominican Republic" when preceded by "Dominica"). (Thanks to Luc for helping me isolate this problem.) This release also suppresses extraneous error messages that were generated if the arrival time was not specified in a flight plan loaded into the system.

Version 1.37, which offers a host of new "goodies" is available here. Please see the enclosed documentation for a complete list.

One of those "goodies", the use of IATA codes, necessitated an expansion of AirportList.dat. Version 1.37 will perfrom this expansion for you while preserving any changes you have already made to AirportList.dat. The first time you open version 1.37, AI flight Planner will advise you that re-formatting of AirportList.dat is necessary and seek your consent to do it.

My plan is to promote version 1.37 to general release 1.4 early next week - barring discovery of any bugs. I'd appreciate it if, where possible, you' download and exercise AIPF this weekend.

Have a good one,
Don

Version 1.38 uploaded. It corrects a TNG situation reported earlier today as well as getting rid of some other extraneous error messages.

I have just released AI Flight Planner Version 1.4 to both Avsim and FlightSim. As well, it is available here.

Due to the large number of additions and changes over my original design intent, AI Flight Planner has become difficult to support and the implementation and testing of new features has been much more time consuming than it should have been. So, Version 1.4 is the last full release on this base. Of course, if significant issues are identified in version 1.4, I'll fix them with an interim release

Over the next few weeks, I'll be re-developing AI Flight Planner to make future expansion much easier. I don't expect any significant changes on the "outside", but the "inside" will be very different.

Once this development is finished (hopefully late summer 2008), I'll be able to accept further suggestions for new features and other improvements.

Have a GREAT sumer, all,
Don

AI Flight Planner Version 1.5 has been generally released and uploaded to both Avsim and Flightsim.

AI Flight Planner was extensively re-written for Version 1.5. It eliminates all the confusion resulting from the differing AI day-encoding schemes used by FS9 and FSX and it completely solves "the 37-minute problem". In addition to several new features over Version 1.5, this release also includes a custom compiler/decompiler.

Should you experience any difficulties using version 1.5, please report them in the "sticky" thread entitled "Please Report Version 1.5 Issues Here".

Enjoy,
Don

Version 1.5.2 has been released. Mainly, it fixes a compiler problem whereby the compiler would "hang" if a destination airport was too close to an AI sector boundary. This version also contains fixes for several other minor problems, principally the issue of some progress bars failing to open or close properly (see included Version History.pdf.)

Don

AI Flight Planner Version 1.54 is now available. It corrects two significant problems:

  • Certain flight plans in the compiled traffic file may not have operated. (This resulted from one of the required airports being omitted from the traffic file. This was not detected when decompiling because AI Flight Planner does not use the airport information from the traffic file. Any flight plans that referred to this airport were affected.)

  • When creating a new Airport List, some or all of the default aircraft were missed. (In the aircraft.cfg file, if there was a space (" ") between "[General]/category" and the following "=", the aircraft was not included.)
As well, single-leg flight plans and legs with the same departure and destination airports are no longer treated as errors in the absence of the TNG flag.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

Don

AI Flight Planner Version 1.55 has been released to address the following issues:
  • Version 1.52 introduced a bug that caused an exception to be thrown if a flight plan referred to the last flight plan in AirportList.dat.
  • Duplicate aircraft titles were erroneously removed from the Aircraft List when files sets were loaded or traffic file decompiled, which in turn resulted in a “missing aircraft” error message(s) and a flight plan file that refused to compile. Duplicate titles are no longer removed.
Sorry for any inconvenience.
Don

AI Flight Planner Version 1.56 has been released to correct a problem whereby an exception was thrown on attempting to save a flight plan leg with the Flight Number field blank.

As well, to aid those who have difficulty managing where their flight plans and traffic files get saved, Version 1.56 creates two new folders named "FlightPlans" and "TrafficFiles", respectively, which will be used as defaults unless another target folder is specified.

Don

EDIT - Release withdrawn temporarily. It should be "up" again tomorrow.

Don

AI Flight Planner Version 1.57 is now available. It introduces some significant new functionality as well as fixing all the recently-reported problems.

New in Version 1.57 is a default traffic file partitioning capability. While AI Flight Planner has had a subsetting capability for some time, it was restricted to subsetting by airports, i.e, deleting from the Flight Plan List those flight plans that do or do not reference any of a selected set of airports. Subsetting by aircraft is now also available and the airport-based subsetting capabilty has been enhanced. You can now partition the default traffic file into individual GA and airline traffic files and remove from one or both those legs involving any of a selected set of airports. See Section 6.6 of the updated User Manual.

While fixing one of the reported problems, I discovered some "holes" in the flight-plan editing logic involving use of IATA airport codes and local time (not necessarily at the same time). These problems were introduced during the redesign between versions 1.4 and 1.5. Users of those capabilities should find the editor much better behaved.

The User Manual has also been updated and supplemented.
