• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA AI not showing up

Just a quick question- A friend has P3D and tried to write a traffic file using a B52 he found on MAIW. It does not show up. He replaced it with a boing of some sort and it did show up.

As I recall, MAIW is primarily FS9. Ergo- perhaps this might be why ai's from MAIW will not work in P3D? AND- if not, is there a way to fiddle with the ai's config file so it WILL work? Enquiring minds want to know. ;) Boib

FS9 models are unsupported in newer P3D versions. No way around it short of converting the model to P3D.

FS9 models do indeed work P3D, here are a pair of FS9 native SU-27's that I have converted recompiled into J-11's for a scenery I am working on in P3D V3. You may recognize Fiery Cross Reef they are approaching:

In the close-up you can see I am having a little trouble with the animations, if I can't tweak the flaps animations to work, I will just freeze them in the horizontal position. I have the option of isolating the model component, re-animating it with FSX/P3D compliant key frame positions and animation tags, but I don't think that level of detail is necessary.
I am currently working on a converted MI-8 to serve as a Chenghe Z-8 that flies to the default oil derrick that I have placed in the position of HYSY 981. It also renders into the sim and I am having some expected issues with transparencies and unassigned animations. Bear in mind that this particular model has not thus far been converted in any way, as I am already confident that many FS9 models will indeed work in P3D and I wanted to test it's basic viability. Oddly, some of those animations that work as expected within the sim are tagged "unknown len" in MCX.

I suggest your friends issue with the MAIW model is likely something more simple, like a matter of texture misplacement.

And, for all you know, it could also be a matter of having a too small parking spot (B737 = smaller than a B52 ?) or a wrong flightplan (difference in cruise speed between the two ?).

Passed all this on - he will answer e-mail but not go on line in Skype unless he wants to call, but I guess that's ok. Hope he gets things to work.

If you have converted/recompiled them, they are no longer native FS9 model files...
You perhaps intend to boost your post count by selectively quoting. The MI-8 needed no such conversion (nor did the SU-27 for that matter), renders fine and ambulates around the scenery conducting various animations. I have since decided to exclude it because I am unable to assign very complex animations, like chock/pitot tube cover removal, into the currently supported FSX/P3D animation tags for AI objects. Granted I could freeze that sequence in an acceptable frame, however there is another involving rotor pitch that tilts the entire model, including each LOD (making deciphering it more difficult), which is the real reason I am abandoning it. Besides, the PLAN is moving away from imported MI-8/M-17's into Super Frelon copies as Z-8/Z-18's.

And thanks for the thumbs up sir, I intend to assemble a collection of screen shots to post in the pending project thread.
