• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Steam Edition installs differently depending on whether or not FSX is or was installed on the system. This may create issues for AIFP.

If FSX is not and never was installed, FSX-SE installs as if it were Microsoft FSX. AIFP will treat it as FSX without any known issues. However, if the Steam Edition installer finds FSX already installed or certain remnants of an earlier installation (in particular, the folder appdata\Microsoft\FSX) it creates a new folder in appdata named "Microsoft\FSX-SE" and in that folder a file named "fsx_se.CFG".

When you start AIFP with FSX as the Target Version, AIFP looks for FSX.cfg so as to be able to find aircraft. Beginning with Version 3.1.08, if AIFP doesn't find "appdata\Microsoft\FSX\FSX.cfg", it will look for "appdata\Microsoft\FSX-SE\FSX_SE.cfg" instead (thus, saving you from having top locate it manually). But, if it does find "FSX.cfg", it will use that file, irrespective of whether you are intending FSX or FSX-SE as the Target Version (AIFP regards them both as FSX).

So, if you are using AIFP with FSX-SE on a system on which FSX is or ever was installed, ensure the correct fsx.cfg file is being accessed. To determine the file in use, open "aifp.ini" with any text editor and check the entry "Path to fsx.cfg".

As of Development Release 3.2.04(m) - soon to become General Release 3.2.05 - AIFP handles all the known variations in installation of the Steam edition, and will select the correct FSX.cfg or FSX-SE.cfg file.
