• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS20 Airbus A340-600 - Project reopened

Hi,

I have decided to put my C-17 on hold and work on my favorite civilian airplane.
The Airbus A340-600.

Actual poly count of the model is 31.964. Next step is to cut the windows in
fuselage.

3d Studio Max Renders with Mental Ray.

Don't cut cabin windows on such a large model, because window configuration varies from operator to operator and you will have to model a low-polygon cabin!

Other than that, it looks good.

Thank you Heretic and Daniel! I thought I get better results with a low poly 3d cabin and "real" windows. But I can try both, a fuselage with textured windows and one with 3d windows.

I would actually recommend cutting out the windows and modeling a low poly cabin. This has become sort of a standard nowadays. While it's a decent bit of extra work, the end result is very rewarding. Recommending against doing so is suggesting to lower the quality of the model, IMO. ;)

If you wanted to have window options per plane, you could create an in-game configuration manager that lets you plug/unplug certain windows.

Do you know how bloody impractical that is with at least 30 different window configurations?!

Actually, I'd say forget about the different window configurations. Most people aren't going to notice that it doesn't match a particular airline's configuration, and even those who do will for the most part not be bothered by it.

Cutted windows always look much nicer than painted windows, and it's easier for repainters as well. The windows are automatically in the right place and you don't have to take them into account while painting. Besides, painted windows always look pixelated while cutted windows are much sharper.

The fact that there are multiple window configurations doesn't matter that much. Nobody is going to count all those windows anyway, as long as it looks more or less like it they're fine with it.

Hmm, think about it before you cut anything out. Even make a duplicate of the fuselage before doing this, as backup. I guess cutting will also cause shading artefacts at the edges of the windows (like you can observe near the doors now, but is typical for 3D meshes as far as I know).

And I'm sure there will be people that count windows ;)

Anyway, I like your model! ;)

Nice progress! The landinglights seem to be a bit buggy though in the last picture

It's only a render, so I guess we don't have to worry about that :D

Oh, I'm not worrying at all! By the look of these renders I can tell the developer has some skills, so I bet he has skills to fix that problem ;)

Looks really nice! Sadly these beasts are getting less and less, the T7 are substituting them... But at least we will still be able to fly it virtually

There doesn't seem to be room for 4-engined airplanes besides the A380 anymore... The 747-8 has only 120 orders in total (69 of them were freighers) where the A380 has 319 orders and none of them are freighers. The 747-400 is being phased out slowly. And just like you said, there are getting less A340s at the moment. Not to mention the IL-86 (120 build)and IL-96 (29 build), which only fly in Russia and ex-soviet states.

No, we're not. You maybe, but I can do with the already present offerings.

Really? Ok.
Just thought that since the Crash Recovery A340 is still in beta, and that WaterHard don't intend on publishing an A340. Alrighty then! Have a good day! :)

Hello,

the Airbus A340 was set to hold, because of my maritime simulation project. And I haven't enough time for other works. But after switching from the P3D platform to MSFS 2020 I'm very excited about the new sim and I will try to give the Airbus a small push.

I completely reworked the fuselage and the wings with the turbines. Next on the to do list is to update the landing gear and the control surfaces. And to start with the interior.
