• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA Airbus A350 XWB

I've done some more work, most of all checking up on where exactly I left of. I made small "to-do-list" for the short tem, things that really need fixing. Like the cutout for the MLGs.

Most work right now, for the exterior atleast, is to be done on the gears and on the wings (flaps have been done but slats and the flex still need to be implemented, though they're already layed-out)
On the interior things are going steady, easy going wiith some small stuff being done on the lower pedelstal and the basics also being made for the upper euhm... pedestal?
Also the seats are comming together, last time I updated there was only one seat, now there are (most of it that is) three seats, I'm thinking about making the seats movable but I've yet to reach a vedict on that, as I have to on many things on this project. Anyway that's it for now, hope to report again soon!

I forgot to mention I've been working on a new light layout for making the Specular maps. I've thusfar tested it with the GlobalEnv_AC_Chrome as found in the FSX SDK, though the idea obviously is to make a custom one soon and it worked very well IMHO.

Thanks Henrik and Marc and everyone who liked my previous post ofcourse (woke up this morning to already find three likes, wow)! I planned to show my new specular mapping today but it turns out the A350, as I now recall, takes a very long time to bake... If I can't show it today I'll show it tomorrow ;)

besides all the fancy details () I think the MLG wheels are still a bit offset to where they should be?

yes you're right about, it's something worth looking at, the problem actually is within the axis which seem to be to big...
I also got frustrated because when the bake was finally done it turned out there had been parts laying on top of things... bwegh that just sucks...

Well I got it remapped a bit, some housegold procedures if you will to keep things tidy. I'm thinking I somehow deleted a texture sheets within blender, in which case blender dumps the unwrap from the deleted texture unto a seemly random other texture, ah well it's fixed now.
So I got the baking done, textures in place and assigned, fresnel and env_map set, all I had to do was pass it through MCX when things went south a bit. Error 16320 stopped me dead in my tracks. Realizing just after I'd started reexporting from Blender that materials with the same material settings, though deffirent in Blender will be merged in MCX and I assume in FSX and by doing so crossing the 65K limit, or atleast that's my theory. So I've now got a memo on my screen saying I should just slightly alter the diffuse colours for the next export, human eye will hardly notice a slight change anyway.

though some remapping might be necesarry, the bake went a bit off at some areas and it all isn't perfect, I quite like the effect I made here.
Most of the work was actually cleaning stuff up, both in the uv and the blend file itself, it was necessary...
Keep in mind though, which the knowledge I have today I'd like to rework on atleast improve upon numerous things, E.G. the engines....

I know the area around the windshield should be black, but it looks now if something went wrong in the baking process or that the mesh is faulty. Everything else looks gorgeous!

You mean the colour of the windows? Well I currently use a dark diffuse with a blue specular map, might make that the other way around.

I think that's what he's talking about aswell but I haven't yet painted that. (I still have to make a small plan for the unwrap to allow for the details there). So I don't actually know what he means now, I assume thr colour of the actual windows or the mesh around the windows...

I've opened up Photoshop and rolled a dice, numbre four was the winning numbre so I opened the tail/engine sheet and painted it TAM (TAM being the fourth receipiant of the A350 XWB).
Forgot how to mirror the logo, excuse me for that again, but I think things went well. The big bottle necks for the aircaft now are the gears (front gears needs to be done and the doors of MLGs are way too big) and the engines, probably gonna do a whole rebuild of them....

I meant the mesh around the windows indeed.

Nothing really that bad. But the most outer windows don't have the same shape as the real ones, so it's definitely worth looking at ;) (the real ones are smaller and rounder. Take a close look at the picture Dave posted, you'll see what I mean.

You know I love this project right? :D

Im digging the new material! Reminds me of PMDG aircraft :p

That was quite intentional actually, does I don't think it is actually exactly the same way PMDG does, though the difference shouldn't be too big...
After today I can log another hour of so in the 350 ;) Such as this small flight to nowhere:
