• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Aircraft on tip toe when placed in scenery

Whilst trying to use an aircraft model converted by SAMM into FSX using ADE I find that the aircraft is standing on tip-toes on the rear gear. Is there any specific reason for this. I have tried various aircraft and it seems to happen on articulated u/c that tilt when in the air, Any help appreciated.

Hard to say without having the aircraft to test and knowing how you are placing it. It certainly is unusual. (What's an "articulated u/c that tilt when in the air"?)

Please identify the aircraft and, if not a default aircraft, send me a link to the aircraft or your aircraft folder (at least model folder and aircraft, cfg file from it). As well please tell me how you are positioning the static model and the placement parameters.

New to scenery design and ploddiing through the various tools available for use so that I can eventually make some airfields for personal use. I am using FSDS to make basic airfield objects and some simple aircraft. ADE to create the airfield and to place the objects made in FSDS. Model converter X and FX Editor to convert the objects and adjust effects. Then I came across SAMM and wanted to see its capabilities. On aircraft witha simple single or two wheeled main gear no problem in converting and using as a scenery object was on problem. However when I tried on an airliner with a tilting bogie in the main I was using the SMS B777 as a test the main gear keeps the tilt of the gear when on the ground. I assume that this is something that SAMM cannot handle or its reading the modelled position which when creating a model you would have to have the gear tilted for animation when on the ground and in the air. When you view the model in Modelconverter X you can see that the gear is titled even before placing in ADE or viewing in the Sim. At no stag are there any error messages during processes etc.

Please note to all that this is an experiment only and the model if usuable would only be for my personal use. I respect commercial licensing and dont condone in any way the illegal use of other peoples work therefore to share the model file is not on my agenda as that would be classified as pirating.

Here are some shots of firstly the real aircraft model in FSX together with the converted static model with the TAM tail.

First shot shows Original SMS B777, subsequent the TAM tailed with the titlted boggies

Any suggestions

Doug, I think you'll find this aircraft does not use the standard animation for landing gear. SAMM's front-panel checkboxes assume standard animations. Use of non-standard animations in payware aircraft is not unusual since they often have capabilities beyond stock aircraft.

But, that doesn't mean SAMM can't handle this aircraft - only that SAMM needs a little help from you.

What you'll have to do is open the Listings and Tools menu, explore the parameters of the aircraft to discover what animations are involved in the undercarriage and set those parameters accordingly. The manual contains a section on the use of this dialog. Of course, this means that you must have (or a desire to acquire) some knowledge of aircraft design techniques. If not, I suggest you find another 777 for static use.

Thanks very much for your feedback, guess I have a lot to learn before I start to produce something that won't have to be reworked again and again. Will look into the Listings and Tools menus that you suggested, but I think I need to do some more reading of how to maipulate things before I dare tweak things. Experimenting is fun and I look forward to the day when i can produce a scenery without any hassel. Once again thanks for your feedback..
