• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Aircraft speed

Hi there,

I'm on v3.4.3.15 and working on a traffic file for P3D v4.5.

When trying to create a flight plan tonight, I noticed that the cruise speed of my newly added aircraft was set at 250 knots (much slower than reality, and not the CFG value). I clicked the "Use Speed from Aircraft" box in the aircraft editor and then clicked "Add to/Update Aircraft List." However, the speed was still reported as 250 knots by AIFP in the aircraft list. I tried double-clicking the aircraft again, and it had indeed set its cruise value to 250 in the aircraft editor, even though the FltSim Block (AI Data) section was indicating a cruise speed of 430 knots. I tried adding a different aircraft. It too was locked at 250 and cannot be changed. If I click the Aircraft menu's "Restore Cruise Speeds for Aircraft in List," all of the aircraft in the list have their cruise speed set to 250 knots, including the ones that were displaying correct cruise speeds prior to using that button.

When mousing over the aircraft in the aircraft list, the airline, parking code and parking types are missing for any aircraft I've added since updating to the latest version. The parking radius is far too small. It seems AIFP is looking for these values in the wrong place, and when it doesn't find them, it substitutes default values or leaves them blank when adding a new aircraft to the list. All information appears intact and correct in the lower half of the aircraft editor, though, so it seems to be reading the CFG file correctly.

This hasn't ever been an issue for me. Is anyone else seeing this? Has something changed in how speeds are to be set in AIFP?

Hi everyone,

Firstly, in checking through other posts, I noticed the note from Don indicating he is experiencing serious health troubles. This is such terrible news. Don, I'm so sorry you're going through this. There really aren't any words to make it better. I hope that whatever it is you are experiencing is treatable. You probably already know this, but the tools you've left us with are invaluable to the flight sim community. The fact that you were willing to build and maintain them for free is a testament to your strength of character. I wish there were far more people on the planet like you, and I hope that you've found satisfaction and fulfillment in this.

Regarding the issue I described above, I've discovered a workaround in the event it can't be fixed. In the Aircraft menu, select "Send Aircraft List to Text Editor." Update the cruise speed to the proper value and save the text document. This will not only correct the cruise speed in AIFP but will also fill in the missing information for the airline and parking info. It corrects the parking radius. I haven't tested a newly added plan in P3D yet, but given that the information all appears accurate and identical to planes I added prior to the latest general release, I don't imagine there will be an issue. I'll report back if there is.

Thanks for the kind words RTV81.

Most of the changes to the latest relate to MSFS2020. It's possible the latest version for some reason "thinks" you are using MSFS2020. If you still have the earlier release that did not exhibit these difficulties, try going back to it. There have been no intentional changes to affect airspeed, parking code or type.

It's also nice you offered a workaround solution. Thank you
