• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX All Rwy12 objects missing after using ADE

I d/l and installed ADE to add a runway to my fictional airport. I had previously used FSX Planner to create the original. I worked from the .bgl rather than the .xml. After completing the work and compiling the new .bgl I ran FSX and noticed that all the objects previously added with Rwy12 were missing. I checked some other airports I had worked on and found the objects missing on these. I made new .bgls using Rwy12 but still no objects. I've tried a 'repair' of FSX, creating a new FSX.cfg and Scenery.cfg to no avail. It may be the installing or use of ADE is nothing to do with the problem but wonder what had made any difference?
Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks

The key statement is "I had previously used FSX Planner to create the original"

We cannot gaurantee how someone elses airport design utility can add micro exclusions and use the deleteALL= blocking statements. FSXP uses options that allows certain parts of a airport to be block and certain parts not to block.

We continue to stress the importance to stay with one utility from beginning to end. If you are familair with the XML then it is possible to bring back your rwy 12 objects that do not show after working with ADE.

Thanks for the speedy reply Jim. I can understand what you are saying about using the two programs but I still can't see how this has affected other airports which have not been changed.
Meanwhile I'll have a look at the .xml and see if I can find anything.

Can you attach the Bgl file so that we can look at it please? Did you add the scenery objects using FSXP or RWY12? Did you add any exclusion rectangles in the FSXP version or in ADE?

Hi Jon,
I added the objects using Rwy12. I originally had an exclusion in FSXP but removed it some time ago. I didn't add one in ADE. I've attached the .bgl file as requested. I upgraded my HDD last week and used Seagate Disk Wizard to clone the new disk, I also installed Norton Ghost 14 at the same time as ADE if that is of any help.
Thanks
Tony

So the objects are not in this bgl file then? Presumably they are in a separate bgl file and are in the scenery folder that contains this airport bgl?

Or did you import the objects into the ADE project?

I will take a look at the file

Tony

I also looked at your bgl. There are no scenery or exclusions in EGTJ. Like Jon ask, do you have another bgl that the RWY 12 sceneryObjects could be located in?

I am not sure if FSXP allows scenery objects in their XML or any type import feature. If the scenery was showing before loading into ADE the objects may have been flushed out but normally ADE leaves something that shows a sceneryobject was there at one time.

That certainly looks like the problem. The ADE bgl file has no objects in it. It also has no exclusions. If you objects were in a separate bgl file then it seem that you have removed that file? ADE would read any objects that are in the bgl file and should not strip them out.

I only ever added objects using SBuilderX (trees and a couple of localizers which show ok) and Rwy12. I've uploaded the relevant .bgls.
What is bugging me most is the no show of Rwy12 objects in the other apts I've worked on in the past. These were completed several months ago and not changed since. I've checked all the .mdl and .bgl files for the objects and these exist.

You do still have the Rwy12 object libraries (and their textures) in an active scenery folder in FSX? If not then none will show up.

Yes they are in the Addon Scenery/Static Objects Library folder. This is activated.
I'm currently trying to add some objects having converted them to .api and using SBX. I have to take a break for a while as I have some maintenance to do on one of my aquariums.
Tony

....and do all the objects re-appear if you remove the ADE bgl file? I think we need to see the ADE project file as well (has the .ade extension) zip it up to make it a lot smaller

What setting do you have for image complexity in your FSX display settings? Make sure it is set to at least normal and for testing it should be set at Extremely Dense.

I still have to suspect your object libraries not being active if you have lost objects at more than one airport however.

It's set at Extremely Dense at the moment but is usually Normal. I'll play around with the scenery library and see what comes up.

Panic over...they're back!

I renamed scenery.cfg and let FSX make a new one. I then added all the scenery and lo and behold the objects appeared. My first thought was that I hadn't activated the Rwy12 files. Comparing the new cfg with the old shows a match but if I swap them and use the old one again, no objects! I have no idea what's wrong with the old cfg file.
Thank you both very much for the time and trouble you have gone to.
Best wishes
Tony :)

No worries so long as it is sorted out now
