• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Alphanumeric Gate and Ramp numbers

Is it possible to have alphanumeric gate and ramp numbers in ADE or FSX generally?

YBTL has (for instance) Gate 2 that the Jets park at, but a smaller Ramp at the same general location which is 2A that the turboprops park at (not with a jetway). The gate and parking locations overlap. I cannot see how to do this as yet as ADE only lets me enter numbers for the Gate/Ramp number. Is this a limit of ADE or will FSX only allow gates/ramp designations in numeric format.

Thanks

It is a limitation of FSX. In this case you would need to create each one with a different gate type. If one is a GATE type and the other a RAMP type then they can co-exist with the same number (2) but you will get an error if you have two GATES with the same number.

Like Jon says you cannot have a letter after a number (2A). You can have a Gate 2 and a Gate 2 as long as no animated Jetway exist at either Gate. You can have any combination of same Parking spot number also (RAMP 2, Gate 2, Cargo 2, Cargo 2 Cargo 2 etc.).

Many airports with Commuter parking spots such as KATL use Gate D31 Door for 3 different airplanes parked out on the ramp. My KATL has 3 Gate D31's but none have a Jetway which FSX will give a compiler error if a animated Jetway is placed at one of the duplicates.

If you remove the animated Jetway and make it a sceneryObject static type Jetway that does not move then you can have a Gate 2 for the large Jet based on a radius parking size and a Gate 2 for the smaller plane based on a smaller radius parking size.

Thanks for that. I suspected as much. I can name both '2' and use Gate and ramp to define them. I just need to make sure that the bloke programming up the FTX AI pack doesn't have a Qantas jet at Gate 3 and a Qantaslink Q-400 at Ramp 3 at the same time.

Thanks

You can even have Gate 3 and Gate 3 as long as no animated jetway exist for the Jet parking spot. The size of the radius for the parking spot controls what type plane parks there.
