• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

ambient animation at regular intervals

I don't know how to apply material but I can use some other very basic object and work with that.

Well, I noted that Henrik N did pretty much the same thing with a number of his ships -- rotating radar. So I chose one and random and opened it up in MCX.

Sure enough, I see the radar rotating in MCX. So it is possible.

One thing though -- you see where there is one line listed here for the animation, Ambient Len=100? Well when I export all these rotating animations from Blender and open in MCX I see two lines, exactly the same. Why might that be?

Well, I seem to have made some progress. I have managed to get the radar rotation animation to function in MCX, on several models now.

Having some trouble making them all behave as intended in FSX, but at least I have gotten to rotate, if not exactly correctly.

OK the trick was having at least 3 keyframes on the rotation animations. And really there should be 5 ---> start frame, 90 degrees, 180 degress, 270 degrees, and then a final frame.

I have one model working exactly as intended in P3D (why did I type FSX above?). Still plugging away.

Now I can claim victory -- thanks for the help.

This was indeed the trick here, as I mentioned. Need to make sure I have at least 3 keyframes on the rotation animations, and better to have 5 keyframes ---> start frame, 90 degrees, 180 degress, 270 degrees, and then a final frame. Then go to Graphical Menu, and change to Linear Interpolation, and voila! Save that puppy, and tag it per the instructions in toolset manual.

It might be beneficial to add some mention of this to the manual, BTW, as it something that is evidently specific to rotation animations.

Been going back and recompiling my ship models, adding in the rotating radar animations:

Starting to learn my way around now in Blender, as least for a handful of basic commands. Really liking it so far.
