• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi all,

My friend and I have regular nerdy arguments about which program package is better - Gmax (Which I love), or DX Studio (Which my friend believes is better). Never heared of DX Studio? Here it is:

http://www.dxstudio.com/

You know what Gmax is - I needn't explain it. DXS is a 'game maker', and it has a basic 3D model editor in it too. I'm not going to bias the argument by making any further comments on each program, but I would like to know, which you think is best for developers like us, when it comes to creating a brilliant 3D model for any game, with everything that makes a model 'good'.

Thanks!

There is no answer to your question...

You may as well have asked, "What tastes more like an egg, an apple or an orange..." :scratchch

The answer is neither one of course! :yikes:

The real question should be, which program is needed for the task?

If the task is to create model content for FS9 or FSX, then the only choice between the two is GMax, because MS/ACES have only provided the export tools for Max8/9 or GMax.

If the real question is which of the two is the most complete and powerful modeling application, then clearly DX Studio is the winner, since it has advanced features that weren't available ten years ago, which is when GMax development was frozen.

Yeah, I guess that is why we argue all the time. :D

I would actually say that the 3D object editor in Gmax is more powerful, and has a better ability to come up with something brilliant, because DX Studio is focused around importing objects from an online library (Created in a graphics package like Gmax) and putting them together to make a game, and adding physics, etc...
The 3D editor in DXS is basic, and could not come up with something as good as Gmax. There is a commercial version of DXS which is very expensive, and might be a bit better.
