• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

FSXA Animated MDL with LOD problem

Got another one for you guys to crack. :banghead:

I have an animation, that has LODs in MDL format. For multiple technical reasons, I made it into a simobject and it appears correctly, with LODs correctly.

Problem: Whenever I move more than 100 ft away from the animation, the animation stops. The object is still there, but the animated seems like it pauses.

I've tried adding extra objects to make the bounding box bigger, then the animation works but the LODs stop working.

I'm bout to throw this pc out the window, fsx is so frustrating. Any ways I can get this anim to show at larger distance with both LODs and anim working?

Going to be a little hard without the actual file.

Assuming your lower LODs are animated also, and tagged and exported correctly ... That would leave an incorrect hierarchy in the Gmax file.

Hi,

A little more information would help indeed. Are all lods animated? Which values did you use for the lod?

If you make the object bigger, the lod switching will happen later. Could that be why you think it no longer works?

To me it sounds as though in your LOD-ing you are removing a basic part that the animation hinges on. If that's the case you'll need to make a simple dummy object that "carries" the animation through the LODs with a steadily diminishing number of things linked to it.

I'm suggesting this because I did it once.
