Animating a train

Hi guys.

I have a big doubt. After much testing, I finally managed to animate a vehicle on a curve and follow a path.

This time I am encouraging a train with two wagons, but when turning on a curve, turn straight and not as you would a train in reality. How do I make rotate as in reality and not straight.

I leave a picture of my doubt. I hope I can help.

Sorry for my english

Greetings.

Hi Juan (:D), did you make the animation with the two wagons as 2 different objects or you attached them?

Hi Juan.

The second wagon attached to the first.

You are a member of Argentina Real?

Best regards.

Hi,

When you move an object along a line, it is the pivot point that will follow the line. But in real life such a wagon would have contact with the rails at the front and back. So what you need are actually two points following the line. But I am not sure if GMax has an option for that.

Have you try out at front and end of each waggon to make bogies.
And the bogies are the pivot point.

Better is maybe a jacob bogie:

Hi Juan,
I'm happy to help but you need to provide me the train and the track that you intend to used.
You can use File->Archive and everything I need will be zip together. You can attach this zip so we can take a look on that.

Tic

Here I send you the model. But it would be good to write the help in the forum so that everyone understands.

Best Regards.

Hi Cobra,
I 'm done with your file now. I make a link of the second train to the first one. Then they go along together. What you have to do is just animate the second one to match the tract by rotating it. I haven't export that yet but they look good in gmax.

Don't be so accurate with the move of second train so much. They move fast and user might not notice some minor "derail" that could happen.

Please tell me how they did when export to flight sim. Sometime they might not be the same as it look in gmax.

Tic

The last image (the log) only shows colocated vertices warnings, which won't stop compilation if you set MakeMDL to Ignore Errors.

There might be another part of the log with real errors?

Hi Juan,
I have checked your file, it seem to have problem at the first time I downloaded from you. The solution is; you need to go to reset X-from to your model BEFORE animate it. I did that and redo all the animation again and it works. Exporter has no compliant at all now. No other way to work around. Don't forget to do X-form reset before animation. You have to go to the last tab of gmax and look for Xform button then click reset.
Here is the file:
I'd like to see the screenshot when it done. Since I have no texture with the gmax. The trains look beautiful.

Tic
