• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Animating objects

Hi all

I need some help with regard to animation. I understand that we can embed animation in the model from some of the posts in this forum.

For instance, i can create a tower model, with an object on top of the tower that is animated to turn left and right. However are we able to control the animation to the extent of when the object will turn and how much it will turn (heading)?

Thanks.

This is a good question for Arno.

There used to be ways to use distance to do this. Also, people were having things triggered by tower frequencies. I dont know how this is done, and I dont know of its still possible in FSX.

Not sure if I understand the question completely, but with the FSX MDL format conditional animations are no longer possible. If you want to use the CAT tool as Nick suggests, you would have to use the FS2004 gamepack.

What is it exactly that you want your animation to do? Base the amount of animation on some variable or trigger it with something?

Hi Arno,

Basically my model contains a component that is attached to the top of another object. I need to animate the top component to turn from its current heading to a new target heading.

For example, if the top component is facing north currently and i need it to turn 30 degrees clockwise, i want to be able to control the component to start animating from its current heading (0 degrees) to the target heading (30 degrees).

I hope this explains.

Thanks.

Hi,

I understand what you want, but I don't understand yet how you think you can tell it to rotate to 30 degrees. Do you want to use some FS variable for that or do you see it as some external input you provide yourself? For scenery that is not possible. For aircraft I am not 100% sure, but I think it is not possible as well.

Hi Arno,

Thats exactly my issue. I have no idea whether i can "tell" the object to animate to the desired state, so i was wondering whether there are any other methods (which i didn't know of) that can possibly achieved the desired effect or even something close to the desired effect. Anyway really thanks for your advice. :)

Cheers

Do you want something in the aircraft to control it?

For example, do you want a frequency change to do it?

Or... do you want a weather change to do it, time of the day?

Hi,

Was doing some other aspects of FSX over the last few months. Now back to this issue again. Preferably i am looking at controlling the animation via simconnect.

Thks,
