• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Animation Question

Is there a way to animate an out of round object as an FSX wheel/tire? What I'm working on is a Sherman Tank for FSX. I have all of the drive wheels as Right or Left wheel still/blurred. What I would like to do is animate the tracks.

Oh boy talk about a challenge :)
you could make a custom animation using the wheel tags and 1000 kf, then animate each segment of the track. lot of work and then you have issues with suspension ect.
only thing in fs Ive seen that is similar is the chain drive on the wright flyer in fs9, but like VC rain that was dropped in fsx

You don't need to animate each link of each track doing a full loop.

If each segment is textured the same then you only need to animate the track for the distance of one link.

For example, in this picture you would create single part segments between each yellow line. It's only when you have a segment that is one link long that you need to turn the link to connect up with the longer segment. When you get to the end of the animation you jump straight back to the start and it will appear seamless.

That's brilliant. I never thought of that myself. Tried years ago to get a large mobile platform to roll like that, and just ran into all sorts of logistical nightmares.
