• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Animations stopped working

Hi Bigglesworth!

A f-curve is generated when ever a animation key frame is made. Blender use a interpolation to calculate all of the small changes that needs to be made for an animation key frame to key frame. I would look for an object that has been tagged with an FSX animation tag, and a start key frame with no other key frames for that object.

Thanks, Kris

Thanks, Kris. Let me start by saying your series of videos has help me considerably, in getting started with Blender for FSX. I'll do what you suggest, but yesterday I made a brand new project, with two simple objects: a box (fuselage) and an elevator (flap-like thing). I animated the elevator correctly, assigned the animation tag, played the animation in Blender (looked fine), exported it to FSX and that simple animation would not work in FSX. Here's a screenshot of my awesome model (no, I won't be uploading it to AVSIM, sorry):

Hi Bigglesworth!

That is very strange! do the animations work for the default FSX aircraft?

Thanks, Kris

Yes they do, Kris. There doesn't appear to be a problem with FSX itself. A few minutes ago I re-exported an old FSDS project of mine, checked it in FSX and its animations work fine, so there shouldn't be a problem with my FSX or FSX SDK installations. Pretty frustrating, because I really like Blender. Even more frustrating, because it WAS working, and working well.

How did you install the new Blender2FSX/P3D tool-set? Did you install it through Blender by using the Add-on's window? Or did you install it manually?

Krispy, I've done that three times already. once I did it using the Addon's window (install from zip file, exit Blender, come back in and hit the three check boxes that show up after restart). No go. Manual install (same technique as the previous versions of the toolset) didn't work either. In Blender, everything looks Ok when I do the export (both install methods), no errors pop up. But alas, no animations in FSX. Very odd indeed.

I'd rather not go back to FSDS, cause Blender does so much more, and so much easier. Maybe I messed up some global settings in Blender by accident, but I wouldn't know where to look.

In an effort to try anything I even installed the programs in a VMware, Windows 7 virtual machine, so essentially a fresh Windows install, fresh FSX install, fresh SDK install, fresh Blender and toolset install, and guess what? No animations.

Well that is quite unheard of, I suggest doing the following for certainty. Export the model but give it a very different name (e.g. add _animation_test to its name). Open it in MCX and make sure you import this model, some people might import models that are not recent without knowing it. Report back if animations work. If they do get the MDL over to your FSX and test it there too. I know that sounds very childish but we will just have to make sure every little detail in the process is correct.

Hi Bigglesworth!

Send me your Blender test file, so that I can look at it. The one you said that you "won't be uploading it to AVSIM". Also send me the version of the tool-set that you are using and your modeldef.xml file that you are using to compile your animation with.

Thanks, Kris

I've attached the test anims file I made. Very simple, just two parts, with an elevator animation. Also included in the zip is my current modeldef.xml file, which is stock FSX/Acceleration SDK. I'm using Blender2FSXP3D_0903, along with Blender 2.79. I'll be curious to see what you come up with. Thanks.

Hi Bigglesworth!

I have looked at your Blender file and tested it and it works fine. I am sending you, your Blender file and the .mdl, .x, .xanim files that I compiled. See if the animations work in FSX for you. If the animation work in your FSX. Then it is your Blender software that is not working correctly. You may want to try to restore your system to a save point before you started having these problems. If that is not possible. Then I would say that you are going to have to un-install Blender and the toolset. Then you are going to have to go through your systems registry and clean in manually of all traces of Blender.

******CATION ---- IF YOU HAVE NEVER WORKED ON THE REGISTRY BEFORE THAN DO NOT ATTEMPT!!!!!!!!!******

It would be easer to just format your system and re-install OS, and software.

Let me know what you find!

Thanks, Kris

Thanks for that, Krispy. I think it's going to come down to something wrong with my system. Maybe I'll uninstall Blender (64) and try the 32-bit version. You never know. :)

I've come up with a workaround. I've installed the 32bit version in my VMware Win7 workstation. I can work on the plane in the main Windows 10 Blender. Then, when I want to export it, I just pull up the file in the VMware Blender, export it there, then copy the mdl file(s) to my Windows 10 FSX, and the animations work. Totally crazy, but it works. I'm thinking I may have to look at my Win10 "ownership" and "privileges" stuff. Or, I might try the system restore option to an early January or late December restore point. But at least for now I'm back in business. Thanks again, Krispy, and any others who came up with ideas.

Hi Bigglesworth... I am having the same problem. My prop animations work but not elevators, rudders or ailerons. Frank

About a month ago, after a major Windows 10 update, all animations worked again, so I no longer have use the windows 7 VMWare to export. I have no clue but I'm glad I'm past that.
