• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Another BGL Compiler issue for the experts

Hello all,
I am new to both the forum as well as Scenery Design. I am a student pilot and would love to start adding a little more accuracy to my favourite sim airports. I am technologically inclined, however, this is a whole new can of worms for me.

I've recently started modifying my home airport, which has been going well, but succesfully compiling the BGL file has not.

After reading many of the other threads regarding BGLComp I have gone ahead and run the error.txt prompt and have come up with a list of what seems to be pure errors RE my xml file.

I get the same batch of code repeated a number of times (The compiler retrying?):

I apologize if this has been covered before, however, I could not find that issue myself.

From what I've seen so far the community here is extremely helpful and I look forward to gaining as much knowledge and contributing as much as I can.

Yes it has been covered before :) This is about the oldest known issue with compiling FSX ;)

Never mind. The problem is that you are using the RTM version of the compiler. This has a number of bugs including the one you see. I do not know what tool you are using to update your airport - if it is Airport Design Editor then the latest version will help you get an update.

If not then you need to download at least SP1a of the SDK.

I assume this is FSX and you are using the FSX compiler from the deLuxe edition of FSX. If you are using the old FS9 BglCompiler then it will just not work.

Figures :o

I have been fiddling with both FSX Planner and ADE, however, ADE is the tool I plan to work with in general. I am running the Deluxe version of FSX with Acceleration installed as well

EDIT: On a side note, I have installed the SDK within the FSX folder, which is installed on a secondary hard drive. I was in the ADE Environment Checker and was unable to change the SDK Path from the C:\ (where it is not located) to the FSX location.

There are a couple of 'rules' about installing FSX and the SDK

First do not install FSX in the default offered folder (C:\Program Files (x86)....) This can get you into problems with User Access Control in Vista and Win 7. That I ses you have not done :)

Second you can install the SDK in the default offered folder - probably the best place. Installing it in FSX is likley to cause issues.

If the Environment Checker cannot find the SDK then that usually means there is a problem with the registry entry. You can direct ADE manually to it. However I would recommend trying to get it out of you FSX installation structure. you can't change that in the Checker since it is reporting what it finds..........

As you have Acceleration then I think you can install the SDK from the Accel Disk (SP1a). You can then upgrade it to the Accel Version. There are some posts around about installing the SDK. This one is a sticky in the ADE support Forum: http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20021

SP1a is fine for the error you report. You must just not have the original. ADE 1.50 has an Issue Manager. If ADE finds problems with your airport project that will stop the compile the button near bottom left is Red. Click it to get help with problems. It will report the wrong version of the SDK and offer to help you download the correct one. However you will have the correct one on your Accel DVD.

Today is off to a good start :D I installed SP2 and was successfully able to export my airport into the sim!

Thanks so much for your help Jon! My airport still requires quite a bit of work before I'll be pleased with it and I still have much to learn (like getting the trees and houses out of my apron) so lots of reading for me tonight. But once completed it will be a nice change for myself as well as my fellow students who also want to practice with a little more realism.

I fly out of CYQT upwards of 2-3 times per week and am at the airport most days of the week for class (in the college program) so it's a bonus being able to park the a/c where they should be parked
