• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Any way I can trigger an effect during cloud transition

So here is what I have come so for with my custom "cloud effect" if you will. Starting with base contrails if I remember correctly (hard to keep track after many trials) this is the desired form so far and I have added this as smoke system in my favorite aircraft to simulate the passing through of the cloud volume and dynamic affect of the clouds on the wings. Now the question is can FSX activate the [smokesystem] whenever the aircraft is "close enough" to the cloud particle, or say just as the visibility is reduced to zero as the default effect of the clouds in fsx (maybe it's not an effect, that its just moving through the texture?)

anyway here is the effect

The sim does not know where clouds are and this is why we can't create good weather gauges.

Hi, I am not well accustomed to the sim coding but doesn't ASN create a cloud effect which is reducing the visibility very smoothly when the plane flies into clouds? it certainly knows where they are so I reckoned it would be possible to do what ASN does but in my opinion ASN's effect is not realistic enough.

I am not sure what ASN is? And that sounds pretty cool for an effect.
From what i was told the sim places clouds randomly based off of altitude and area.
So for a weather radar it can't read the clouds location and size.
Ii figure you would have gotten more reply's if you could read a cloud location!

Sorry, whereever I talk about this people seem to know about ASN: it is Active Sky Next, its a weather engine, it does create the said effect from the videos I've seen on youtube though I don't own the product so I did not test it myself.
at 12th second you can see the effect.
