I am working with an archipel. I started up from an ESRI Shape file which has a lot of vertices, it is virtually impossible to go into so much detail by hand because (a) it would take way too long and (b) the satellite imagery for the area is not as detailed so that zooming in leaves you without a contour to work on.
So, my archipel is now kind of complete (first part) and comprises several QMID 11 squares. I set about creating the exclusions, then I covered the area and used Fill to QMID 11 to create the water polygons.
Unfortunately the Fill to QMID 11 does just that and it doesn't group the 6 adjacent water polygons into one.
The problem now is, within those 6 (out of 7) QMID 11 water polygons I have 4 islands, two of which are very big and have a LOT of contours that are drawn (from the .SHP file) across two QMID 11 polygons.
With the smaller ones I had no problem making them holes of their parent polygon. The big islands that cross QMID 11 boundaries however, cannot be converted to holes (Set as hole) because it has two parent polygons rather than one, one for the upper (northern) part, the other for the southern part.
The question now is.... considering the HUMONGOUS amount of work it would be to draw it by hand (and without much detail), is there a way I can split the island polygon in two (north & south) on the QMID 11 boundary so that I can make their two parts holes of their respective parent polygons?
If I could make a single water polygon spanning the 6 QMID 11 polys would also be good but I don't know if you can define a multi QMID 11 water poly and there seems to be no way of defining such. SBX only has Slice to QMID 11 and Fill to QMID 11.
