AO-Baking from Bill Womak Tutorial - Problem

EDIT: Always the same with me ^^ I post exactly 1 minute too early. Searching an hour for the problem, then i write here and 1 min later i find the problem. :-)

Can be ignored, i found the issue (hidden objects that interfered).

Hi again.

I followed the great Tutorial from Bill, basically through the end, what worked pretty well and i didnt have any issues following the steps. I could bake AO also and it looked great.

Now i tried to make the same AO bake out of my own buildings, wich is not that much different than the Portland FireDep. Infact its a bit easier even. The problem is that i get black parts in the bake and i have no idea why. You can see on the pictures, the windows and garage doors are fully black.

All steps are as far i can see the same as Bill did it. So i made this:

- model the building without the windows and garage doors cut
- made the unwrap to a colortile image
- cut the garage and doors
- extrude it inwards
- bake the AO

And i get this:

Tried all kinds of things already but it stays black.

Would be great if someone could help :) Thanks.

Are you sure you have a light source in your scene? If I am not mistaken, you either need to have a light source in the scene itself or your environment needs to be configured to become the light source. Otherwise there is nothing to bake for the renderer.

Actually he only needs a light source within the rendering/ enviroment, not necessarily within the scene or project. If using an enviroment light which enviroment scene is he using?

It also could be that the rendering/ bake isn't setup strong enough

Thanks everyone :) I forgot to delete the 2 layers that ive hidden That were the cutter objects for the windows and garage doors. Seems they interfere with the baking somehow. As soon i deleted them i could bake as usual.
Not sure about the lightsource, usually i put in a HDRI and a image-plane used as ground. That seems to give me good results. Probably the HDRI acts as kind of a lightsource.

Anyway, in this problem it was indeed the 2 hidden layers though.

Thanks again still, every input is always appreciated!

Yes, the HDRI acts as the light source within the rendering tab/ baking. Depending on which HDRI you use can change the look of the baking also.
