• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

attaching lines... is it possible?

Hello folks,

Is it possible to attach several lines so that I only need to do one loft instead of several lofts? I can't seem to do it using the attach list for some reason.

Kindly,

Blazer

I managed to attach lines, but the "Get Shape" option is not available after attaching. Is there a way around this?

Hi,

After attaching the splines (vertex to vertex) apply a CrossSection to your first spline. It's another way to get a lofting (you do not need to set a path). Then Apply a Surface (see drop down list).

If all you need is a cylindrical section, use Display Mesh with a suitable diameter and number of sides. You'll need to add an Edit Mesh modifier to the object's stack before it will export to FS - or convert to editable mesh or poly.

If you want to build a loft using different cross-sections along the Path, you need to look at Path Parameters. You can have umpteen different cross-sections with smooth or abrupt transitions. There's a video tutorial over at FSAlpha which shows the technique - I just wouldn't use it to build a nosecone, that's all.

If you're using José's Cross-Section & Surface method, reduce the Threshold in the Parameters for the Surface modifier to nearly or fully zero or you'll probably not see all you want of a usable mesh.

Hope this helps!
