• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Attemping to update an island, need help!

I am trying to create the Navy heliport in the Bahamas. The facility name is AUTEC, located on Andros Island, about 1nm NE of the Andros airport ICAO:MYAF. In FS9, the island of the Bahamas is broken badly by water. In real shoots, like google, this is not the case. I know what AUTEC should look like as I spent nearly 3 weeks there.

So far, I have developed a horrible AFCAD of the facility using AFX. But attempting to create a heliport from scratch and without knowing any information is impossible.

I have also run into an issue with the island itself. I have download fsgeneis Mexico and Caribbean 76.3M mesh. But that didn't change anything.

Does anyone know how to remove water, add land, flatten terrain, and properly develop a heliport? Also, if you go to google map what it looks like, I will start off with the heliport first, then, eventually wrap up with the entire base.
These are the programs that I have installed right now: EZ-Scenery, AFX, RWY12, SBuilderFS9, terrain_sdk FS9.

Any information will help. I have stared to install scenery to give it some life, but I am at a loss. And the SBulder and terrian SDK are a bit weird to understand.

Hi,

Downloading new mesh will only improve the elevation data, but in general it does not alter where water is and where not.

I see you have SBuilder already, that would be a good tool to alter the terrain. You can either create new VTP polygons with it to make land or try to alter the landclass.

Hey Arno,
I have allot to read in regards to using FSBuilder. This will be the first time that I ever attempted to actually dive into what FS9 has to offer.
It seems that it will take some getting use to. Once I have the terrain mod down, it will be only a matter of time before I can really start to design the airport itself.
Right now I just looked at the FSbuilder pdf. It seemed like allot to take in. So it would be better if I printed it out.
Once I have the terrain, the next big step would be to actually determine the correct order in building the heliport. Since it's actually a strip of tarmac and concrete, I have no clue how to register it on an AFCAD correctly. Also, finding how to properly draw the correct helicopter landing squares to match the actual base is unknown to me to.
I think I would start with the field, then slowly work my was out to the other buildings. Even thought this base is small, it has many small buildings scattered everywhere, and so much tropical trees and sand in random areas. I was there, so I still remember how it should look. Just will take a while to understand GMax and adding textures.
