• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Autogen on shorelines

Hi,

for a scenery I work on I want to use autogen on a certain shoreline (white beach). I set a flag in the beach definition to allow autogen on it, but it is populated very sparsly and only with one kind of low bush (I want palm trees).
I searched everywhere, but could not find where it is defined what autogen elements are annotated to the beach and in which density.
Could anyone shed some light on this? Is it possible to alter these properties?

Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,

actually, that "excludeautogen" flag only determines whether the vector texture itself suppresses the autogen of the underlying land class texture or not. As stated in the Terrain Configuration File" SDK:

If set to True, prevents Autogen objects (trees, poles etc) from appearing on top of the texture. The default value is True.

In order to place custom autogen along vectors you'll need to use the "vectorautogen" option, which is explained in the same SDK section. The disadvantage of that approach is, however, that you'll need to add custom entries to the global terrain.cfg file. Easy enough to do if this is just for your own use but for distribution you'd need a reliable installer script to insert that custom entry in a manner that doesn't disturb any other existing custom entries, such as those placed by UTX, Orbx, MSE, FSAddon, and others.

Cheers, Holger

Thanks for the reply, Holger. I'll try that, but your answer somehow reflected what I feared.
Nevertheless I'm eager how it looks like! :-)

Cheers,
Mark
