• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Autogen Tree's Help

Hey all,

I'm really really really new to this and have been working on modeling my home airport in FS9.

AFCADS are done and now i'm working on modeling the grounds and stuff.

My question is, There are a lot of trees on the property that are not modeled in the autogen by default. I want to add them but the only way I know to do that right now is by hand.

Is there an easier way? Like just being able to draw a polygon or something and say "Put a ton of tree's here?".

I know this is a pretty noob question but I've not had much luck searching Google.

By hand do you mean Instant scenery? You can use the FS9 autogen SDK annuator to plant rows of trees how and where you want them.

Hi Vince:

Although the 2 excellent linked tutorials (by Luis Feliz-Tirado) on the wiki page linked above discuss "FSX", the GUI and principal of operations is basically similar in the FS9 Annotator SDK.

One must know the file name(s) of the custom land class texture tile(s) which one wishes to annotate, so one is able to open and work with the proper terrain tile bitmap as a background in the annotator utility of choice.

FS9 terrain tile IDs and associated custom land class (photoreal) texture / AGN file names can be derived by use of TCalc version 2.0 - by Richard Ludowise (aka "rhumbaflappy"):

http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004sd&DLID=55467

(The required module "FDSConnection.dll" is included).

If your photoreal coverage area is small, you may wish to annotate manually as the above tutorial illustrates, which allows great precision.

If your area to be covered is large, you may wish to initially "saturate" the tiles with autogen using a semi-automated utility, and then go back to edit locations you will see from very low altitudes and/or on the ground for the desired degree of precision.

FYI: Some utilities for semi-automated autogen placement (in order of apparent general preference by others in the FS Development community) are:

1.) AgenT - by Lars Hoyer (part of the UK-VFR Objects Library package; IIRC, 'AgenTs' does place other objects in addition to Trees):

...OR:

AgenT (core utility package ONLY with no manual... IMHO one needs the manual !):

2.) AutoTrees - by David J. Griffiths (IIRC, 'AutoTrees' does not place objects other than Trees)

NOTE: Both the 2 above utilities do work in FS9 (which some FSX developers also prefer initially during creation and editing, prior to eventual conversion for use in FSX).

PS: Some caveats regarding autogen annotation manually (ex: be sure to cover the overall imagery area randomly and/or evenly from the start, so one will not end up with parts of one's LOD-13 quad / cell photoreal texture tile areas devoid of autogen because the FS9 autogen rendering limit is reached before the end of annotation placement sequences in one's AGN file for that tile number is reached):

Hope this helps you get started ! :)

I believe the question was about modeling trees that are NOT in default Autogen. I have a similar problem because other than the Cocunut & Acacia trees none of the other trees seem to be native to tropical forests.

yes, I would like to add some regional vegetation to the sceneries, and add them to the annotator library, but if someone know of some tutorial , please for Fsx.
