• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Autogen trees with SBuilderX polyline?

Up until yesterday I had been using the aging FSX KML which was good until Google changed the KML format and hopelessly broke FSXKML (plus other issues with Vista & Win7).

IN FSX KML I could define a Polyline (a line with multiple points but not a polygon) and then "tag" it with an autogen tree class. What I would do was to dot the vertices with an autogen tree (or collection of trees depending on which you chose). That was neat because I could define a row of trees alongside a country side road.

I have been playing with SBUilderX and noticed that while you can choose the type of scenery object (animals, houses, etc.) there was no option to choose vegetation as the type of object to assign to a polyline.

Is there anyway I can achieve that with SBuilderX ?

The line properties popup. Under the General tab, select line of objects. Under the line of objects tab, set the objects category to FSX Vegetation.

Note that lines of trees will not change with the seasons... FSX "feature".

The downloads section has a utility called
FsxPreKml
that will fix KML files so FSXKML can use them.

EDIT: I was too quick in responding :-( I tried what you said with the Line of Objects. The problem is, in that combo box there is no "FSX vegetation" selection and the FSX Autogen selection does not list any vegetation at all (they are missing because in the scenery catalog there IS autogen vegetation.

Thanks Rhumba! I have no problem with the season feature, here in the tropics we only have rainy and dry season but the trees change little over the year (other than giving fruit or flowers). So for me and my scenery that is not a limiting factor. Good to know it is possible to do it with SBX.

I tried that PreFsxKML but it craps out on my system, in any case FSX KML is hopelessly broken for more than a year already and the owner has refused to do maintenance on it or even release it as open source so that someone else can take it further. Pity, it was a wonderful tool.

Anyway, I see SBX can do what FSX KML does and more. What I missed in FSX KML was the ability to see the background maps and the back-and-forth with GE was cumbersome (especially now). I have around 15 FSX KML projects that I will have to migrate to SBX.

Originally it wasn't downloading but after rebooting the computer the links worked correctly. For some reason my 3.13 version of SBuilderX was indeed missing the FSX Vegetation library objects.

I did notice however the total lack of tropical trees in FSX autogen vegetation with the only exception of the coconut tree. Anyway, with this I think I can totally phase out FSX KML. Thanks RhumbaFloppy.

Would a polyline marked as "Line of Objects" in which these line of objects is actually a vegetation (trees) show up in FSX if this line of objects is defined within a photoreal tile?

I have been trying to annotate autogen trees within the photoreal tile but the density of them leaves a lot to be desired (too few). So, I was wondering if perhaps a line of tree objects would work better, or would it not show at all?

Thanks Dick, that indeed works. However, since that works I wonder why did I bother to use the Autogen Annotator if I can add the vegetation right in SBuilderX ?

Hi Dick, couldn't help but noticing that compared to the online FSX objects catalog, my SBuilderX 3.13 distribution seems to be missing the whole collection classified as "Roofs".

I always wondered what was the usefulness of a roof collection in FSX as shown in the object catalog. Yesterday it downed on me that when flying above you don't see the house and only need to see the roofs. Good for making small towns and stuff like that.
