• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

AVSIM website

Is anyone else having trouble with AVSIMs website? I can not get it to load at all, not their main page nor their forums.

I tried a tracert avsim.net and note that there appears to be a DNS issue (again) since the request times out from the node in Chicago when attempting to reach Herndon, Virginia...

UPDATE: I just received this email from Tom Allensworth via the AVSIM server:
I am sorry to say that the AVSIM Forums and Main site are down and will be for a while. We had a hardware failure last night. We have had the server rebooted several times since then in an attempt to get it back online. All of these attempts have failed. We are waiting for technical support from a company that we contracted with, but that could take some time to get in place and rolling. I will send out updates as the situation evolves.

Hi Folks

forums.avsim.net has for months failed on an almost daily basis, (500, 503, or no response).
Normally it's been corrected by mid/late-morning UTC.

Bill -
Just clarifying -
Its not an external DNS issue.

Its a fault on 205.252.89.43
Either the server itself,
or AVSIM's own DNS running on that same server, (ns0.avsim.net).

AVSIM, (the brand), have multiple domains, and host several domains for 3rd parties.
Some of those domains are standalone, others are subdomains.

Some, (not all), of those domains and sub-domains, depend on AVSIM's own name servers, (ns0 & ns2)

ns0.avsim.net is failing
ns2.avsim.net is working, (AVSIM library),

Were someone to also correct their misconfigured robots.txt
I suspect we'd see an improvement in the forum's performance.

EDIT -
Bill - Just seen you'd updated your post.
Cheers for info.

Just in case anyone is wondering, the AVSIM Forums and Main site are down and will be for a while. They had a hardware failure last night and were unsuccessful in rebooting the server several times. They are awaiting tech support from their contractor.
Best regards,
Jim Young

I am happy to say that the AVSIM main forum server is now back online. Thank you for your patience folks.

logging onto the avsim forums is almost as exciting as doing the Italian Super Enalotto. It's the slowest of 'all' the websites I visit.
I think the forums are carrying too much baggage, advertising and the like.

They should set up a separate "PMDG fanboy" forum. That would speed things up quite a bit.
