• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

3DS Max Babylon Exporter disappeared

With the latest update on Nov 11th, I even updated the SDK to version 0.20.3. Unfortunately, the Babylon exporter disappeared from the Babylon pulldown in 3dsMax. The two pulldown lines show only "Missing 1" and "Missing 2". Does someone experience the same update result, and has probably a solution or is there a possibility to rollback the SDK version?

I am pretty sure, with something like that, you can just take the plugin and drop it into the 3ds Max workspace window, or you can place the plugin into the default directory "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max [ver]\plugins\".

Hi,
thank you for the response. It took a little while to solve the problem. The first trial to copy the plugin files to 3ds Max plugins folder did not work. After a extensive search i found a description in the BabylonJS documentation. It offers a Github website which leads into the Nirwana. A search inside Github gave me the result to use a file named Max_2020.zip. The documentation pointed out, that the DLLs from the Zip file shall be copied to C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2020\bin\assemblies. No further action is required. This worked so far, the Babylon exporter appeared again in 3ds Max. The surprise was a complet new Babylon dialog which took about five minutes for an export run. The final compilation in FS2020 stopped with the message, "Errors # wrong_size_files:" for a BGL file. Therefore, I used another approach. I made a file search in the MSFS SDK folder to find a file named Max2Babylon.dll. I found it in C:\MSFS SDK\Tools\3dsMax\FlightSimPackage\plugins\glTF_Exporter\2020. The last step was to copy all files with a date from 2022 to the C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2020\bin\assemblies folder. After that, the old Babylon dialog came up and the export time was measured in seconds. The error message out of the SDK compiler remained. But the resulting BGLs were ok and shown perfectly.

Ah, I was thinking I should update here as well. Congratulations on your success. Very awesome and thanks for reporting your solution. I actually also experience the same problem, as of the update, but since it also enabled 2023 exporting, I had inadvertently switched without even noticing, until I happened to go back to version 2022.

Slowly, it becomes annoying. Today, the information came up in the SDK, that a new version is available (0.20.4). Wow, did the SDK developer read my post? Obviously not in this millennium , same procedure as experienced in the version before. No Babylon Exporter available in 3Ds Max after the update. So I used the file copy procedure described in my second post again. In this case, I copied the entire folder content of C:\MSFS SDK\Tools\3dsMax\FlightSimPackage\plugins\glTF_Exporter\2020. It worked. Another solution could be to make a save copy of the 3Ds Max assembly folder before the update is started, and then to copy back the saved data after the update.

Yes! How could you tell? Or, it could actually be a "problem," that many experience, few dutifully report and Asobo eventually addresses.

Might not the best solution be patience, to do nothing and wait until the update patch for the SDK update is released? It is somewhat of a long standing custom, to assume odd behavior after an update is the consequence of a botched update, to expect a patch and not to asperse Asobo, but update patches are kind of becoming de rigueur. Checking now after applying SDK update patch 0.20.4.0, Max 2022 Babylon exporter works fine - for anyone else hesitant to apply the latest update.
