• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

The correct way to put an background image

In the past, before GE offers many ways to see and get georeferenced earth images, some tools used to adjust background by trial and errors. That was an old fashioned way, for sure.

Ground2k4 and Sbuilder have begun a new time on that matter, leaving the user the option to register an image for background based on their corner's lat/lon coordinates.

I think this is the way you should follow, if is your intention to use background image in FSX Planner.

But, before this, I would appreciate if FSX Planner could connect with FSX so I could use a third tool (SBuilderX) and see the airplane position in FSX Planner, in FSX and also in the background image provided by SBuilderX.

Me, too! This tool's great but the couple of airports I've tried it on show MS have placed the airports in a different location. Using ADE and GoogleEarth gives a different result.

I fully agree on that. On the other hand it adds an extra complication for the end user, as he needs to be aware of the projection used for his images and stuff like that. But if we want good results that is something we have to do.

The terrain SDK also seems to move into that direction, as the latest resample can for example read georeferenced TIFF files. Once you know how to get images that already contain their geo info or how to make them, creating a scenery has become very simple.

I would really like to see airport design tools that could read the same image formats as resample can use to make the photo scenery :).

Well once the code for connecting FSX Planner to FSX is finished then you'll be able to do all of that in FSX Planner. Just not there yet. :)
