• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Barrier

Hi all, I hope some kind soul can help me with this.
Using SBX I have flattened and excluded autogen from the shore of a Lake.
I have also used LC grass both these are fine.
However in trying to follow the real world landscape I must make a short channel from the lake to a small body of water inland. All this is fine as well EXCEPT despite whatever I do I get a narrow land barrier across the entrance of the channel.
I have tried various polygons but all to no avail.
The barrier is the same colour as the rest of the shoreline and is at water level.

Any ideas as to how I can eliminate this barrier?.

Regards
Richard

Hi Richard,

if there's an elevation step in the water and you're using the default terrain.cfg then FSX will turn water into land using a cliff texture. The alternatives are trying to reduce the slope of the step with a sloped flatten (a water flatten poly in SBX with different elevation values for each point) or to install the modified terrain.cfg file: http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3290

If that's not the issue the a screenshot would be helpful.

Cheers, Holger

Hello Holger and thanks for your reply.
I am using the modified terrain cfg.
However I am not sure what to do with the "water textures for modified terrain cfg " xls file. Perhaps you would be kind enough to explain how I should use this if it is needed.????
I have eliminated the barrier by drawing a small "exclude shore line" poly over the area affected.

Will you help me with 2 more small problems?
My shore line is just a series of straight lines and does not look very realistic, how can I make the shore line look better. I have tried a shoreline poly but nothing seems to happen.

Can you draw CURVES with SBX????

Regards
Richard.

Hello Richard,

the .xls file is just a reference of which specific changes the authors made to the terrain.cfg. The same information is also summarized in the read-me html file.

You can add as many points to vectors or poly as you like; you can even use SBuilder to smooth a line for you though it's usually more accurate if you choose where to place each point.

The document to read is Luis's excellent Terrain Design for FSX: http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fsxsd&DLID=100997
