• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi, Blake. Welcome to FSDeveloper!

I guess the important question at this point is whether you can successfully export a model from whatever version of 3ds Max you are using, and then have the model show in FSX? First things first as they say.

browse the wiki sections linked here... awesome information, and if you dont need the info now, they will let you know where to find it when you do. they will also give you the info and courage to dive in and get the ball rolling....

excellent resources...!!!!

welcome!!!!

Thanks for reply guys, i have never exported an object into fsx i have model converter x, ive tried exporting and importing into model converter x but i always get errors saying something like an unhandelled exeption has occured, a great developer frm aviasim has helped me out, i have the pandasoft directX exporter but i still dont get any X file to export with? what else do i need, i am only creating for fsx only.

Thanks,
Blake

You still haven't mentioned which version number of 3ds Max that you are using. If it is an older version i.e. 2008 or earlier, it would be best to install the FSX SDK. If it is a new version like 2011 or 2012 then you will need to install the Prepar3D SDK. To the best of my knowledge the only ones who should be using the Pandasoft plugin are those that require an .X file for FS2004.

Thanks for the nice words their Blake.

Setting up, I find to be the hardest, by setting up I mean getting every programme, plugin, tool needed to succesfully get an object from GMax/Max to FS9/X with all the bells and whistles (effects, night textures etc)... this is really a one time set up, then from their its just from one tool to the other to FS.

Your clean and empty desktop will become full of files, textures etc so beware!

Gahhh! Why use the Desktop for such stuff? Create your own folder structure for graphic files, etc. Keep 'em with their project source files.

The only things allowed on MY Desktop are program launch icons, and then only the ones I use frequently.

two great hints here, first check you can export your works and all sdk tools work, and second maintain you desktop clean and tidy if possible :D and the anguish will not came up :duck:
