• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

best program to make grounds in FS2004

Hello everyone , what is the best program to make grounds (high quality ) in FS2004 without problems , like fly tampa airports

Please help mme....

The best application...

In my opinion, the best application to work with terrain's elements (lakes, rivers, streams, etc) is SBuilder v2.05, for FS9.

AFCAD is the best program to make taxiways and runways for FS9. SBuilder will not create them for you. As an alternative I believe SceneGenX will create/modify taxiways and runways.

And if you want more control or detail, like a lot addon sceneries do you can for example use the Fs2002 gamepack of GMax (plus some manual tweaking).

If you use FSDS it would be better to use FSDS2, but if you have FSDS3 you could let it create a X file and run that manually through the Fs2002 MakeMDL.

If you use the Fs2004 MakeMDL you can only create MDL scenery objects and that format is not suitable for ground polygons.

Why i use MakeMDL FS2002 If I can directly make bgl from FSDS3 , there's change If i use that way , I think the two way for the same meaning.

It's Ok but when i use MakeMDL FS2002 it's work with FS2004?

Yes, it is backwards compatible so it will still work. You can be sure that most addon sceneries use this technique if they want a high detailed ground layout.

Why i use MakeMDL FS2002 If I can directly make bgl from FSDS3 , there's change If i use that way , I think the two way for the same meaning.

No, that BGL file will contain the same code as the MDL file (but with the placement already done). And with that code it is impossible to create ground polygons that behave correctly. For example your airplane will not be able to cast a shadow on them and they will flicker.

Arno thanks , but there's problem you can see pictuer there's not aircraft shadow and it's look something wrong , How i can fix this (I use MakeMDL 2002 and i do the way you tell me ) ?

Have a look at this article on the Wiki. It is talking about GMax there, but if you use the Fs2002 MakeMDL with FSDS it works the same.

Thanks , but it's talk about ASM filies but you told me export as X files , it only solution for shadow but there's someting wrong in polygon it's not clear .

Please help me , and I'm sorry to ask too many qustions today.:o

Hi,

Yes, the steps are like this:

  1. Make your polygons in FSDS
  2. Export them as a X file
  3. Create a BGL from this X file with the Fs2002 MakeMDL
  4. Make sure you select keep files so MakeMDL saves the ASM files
  5. Tweak those ASM files to get real ground polygons
  6. Recompile them to a BGL with BGLC
  7. You are ready to use your ground polygons in FS!

Arno , Thanks ,you are genius , It's work . Now I can make grounds,

but there's anouther qustion , how I know place of parking space , to make signs in FSDS3 , I can capture photo from top down or not ? , If I can how I can place the scale for this photo to add in FSDS3.

Very Thanks..,,,

Hi,

What do you mean with parking space? Do you mean markings on the ground or 3D objects?

If they are 3D objects I would just design them around the 0,0 point in FSDS and then you can position the object at the correct lat/lon later on with the XML code.

If you are talking about markings, it probably makes most sense to draw them like your ground polygons and export them in the same way (but at a higher layer to prevent flickering).

No , i don't talk about that , I mean How you know the correct Position of the signs in ground ( correct place) you must i think have photo from top ,
my qustion how to place photo scale to same scale of ground polygen ( when you use the backdrop in FSDS3) ?

Thanks,,,,
