• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Blank Library in Instant Scenery

I have 3 scenery objects built with FSDS 3.5.1 that I want to put into a Library. FSDS is configured for FSX scenery. With FSDS I created the .mdl files. I then started a new library file using LibraryCreatorXML. I added the three .mdl files, saved the library, then selected "Compile Library BGL". the library bgl is where it should be (23.3kb in size), and when I open Instant Scenery, the newly created library is in the list; but when I select it, there are no objects, just a blank menu.

The odd part is that I had already created a successful object library the same way, with the same objects. Then I went back and made modifications to one of those objects. It is when I tried to recompile that I experience the problem described above. I deleted the original objects library so that the new one would be saved as new. I even went back into FSDS and rechecked all my compile preferences. Also rechecked the directory preferences in LibraryCreatorXML to be sure they were set for FSX compiling.

Any ideas as to what the problem is?

Hi Bob
I see you didn’t get a response here its not that we are ignoring you it could be that we just don’t know how to help you, but I will try.
It seems that FSDS is working as you were able to make the MDL files, but to be sure I would try installing the MDL file into scenery with out the libraries and see if they look ok then you will know if it’s a problem with FSDS or the next steps.
I have never used “LibraryCreatorXML” or” Instant Scenery” but perhaps there are other forums for those programs that you could post your trouble on, sorry not to be more help.

Thanks for your response. I can make the libraries with LibraryCreatorXML if I use makeMDL and configure FSDS 3.5.21 and LibraryCreatorXML for compiling FS9 libraries. The objects work fine in FSX. I have had to modify some textures because of the night texture transparency, but otherwise no problem. It is when I try to use XtoMDL and configure for FSX that I get blank libraries. The mdl files appear to be successful but I cannot create libraries with LibraryCreatorXML. I'm new to all of this and I find FSX very frustrating. I don't fly FSX because of so many issues, but I'm trying to use it to make scenery for my V.A.
