• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS Blender animation and export to MSFS - help needed

Hi, after I made some progress with modeling and texturing I want to improve my future sceneries by adding animated objects and, if possible, basic AI traffic. Does anybody know if there is a comprehensive tutorial covering:

- creation of a simple animation in Blender (like a rotating object or a cycling movement animation for an animal)

- exporting that animation correctly into MSFS

- moving an animated object along a path in MSFS (for example a ship with a rotating beacon that leaves a wharf on a certain time, completes a circle within a few hours and then returns to the wharf)

Any help is appreciated, I´m completely new to this and though I found some information on each of those aspects on the forums I´d really need a step by step tutorial to guide me through this process for I know nothing about xml programming and the like.

Thanks and cheers, Fabian

Hmm. Yes, the video is really well made and clarified a lot of things for me. Alas, it didn't help me in the end.
I am trying to create an animated waving flag. I can get the flag wave nicely in Blender. I can get a cube like in the video rotate in Blender and export the animation to MSFS. However, I can't get the animated flag wave in MSFS. If I set "use current frame", the flag is static, but it shows exactly the right frame. If I do not set "use current frame", the flag always sticks with the first frame.

I have tried to use all three positions (x,y,z) and rotations and scalings, as well as only the three positions in the Blender animation settings, but it seems not to make a difference. What do I do wrong? 😟

At flightsim.to there is an Addon library called Windy Things. It contains 300 different flags and AFAIK also a detailed tutorial how to create your own flag. You may try this.

Thanks a lot, Fabs79. I just tried it and it works perfectly. In fact, it is better than what I had planned in that the flags react to the wind in the sim.
Cheers,
Peter
