• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Blender beginner - Loopcut problems

Hello again.

Ive googled before posting here but i cannot find any answer, sorry. Im really sorry for asking such questions but ive followed many tutorials by now and have probably around 2 dozens of objects here that all work fine. But as soon i start my own things i run into the weirdest issues.

Like now, a simple loopcut takes me already over an hour to figure out why it doesnt want to work. I simply cant make a loopcut on an object. On every other face it works but not on one, exactly where i would need it. I want to make a vertical and horizontal loopcut in the selected face but as you can see it ends directly left and right start of the face.

The vertical one doesnt work at all.

its the same object, i didnt seperate a selection or something like that. Backface culling is on so seems there is no flipping either. But if i try to find the spot to make a cut into this face there will never be the line shown, no matter on what end or side i try to find it.

What can that be?

here a few of those things ive already made without bigger problems, many loopcuts involved nd it always worked. Never had this problem yet.
Would be great if someone could help me with this.
That building im im trying to do is a tutorial (in timelapse... without explanation) but i need something like this for an airport too.

Switch to vertex view, then you see that this face hase more than 4 vertecies. Loop cuts only work on quads.

thank you for the fast reply. Ive started over completely and then it worked. But i will keep in mind.

Thanks a lot!

I wanted to say thanks to keep me going, already in the last topic where i was basically more "crying" than anything else.

I think im on the track now... still so much to learn but at least in making some progress now, thanks to the mentioned tutorials (in the other topic) and some ppl here. Thanks again!

This is what im trying to do over time (with 4 or 5 buildings outside view). Thought maybe better to start small^^.

Some objects for that scene ive already made, with mostly placeholder textures until i learn it better. And i didnt want to go into full detail with the tower (yet). Because i have no idea how performance etc turns out, or if ive made errors (which i probably have a lot..)

Im just posting this show that i wont give up, even it may have looked like it ^^ Thanks again.

Yes, kinda.:) i learned cinema 4d in school for around 1.5 years. But that was some 20 years i think back, when it was in v3 if I remember correctly Or 2, not sure anymore. Then I started in November last year for the first time again, after 20 years.
Doing the famous donut tutorial from blender Guru. But again I dropped it, right after this one tutorial... Until around 2 weeks before I posted here, mid January

In that time I made some tutorials, those skyscrapers for example, the other famous one from blender guru, the one with the chair, and a low poly store tutorial.

And now it's 3 week or so later, having finished my tower by now :) that is the very first object that I didn't do by following a tutorial but fully myself ( the modeling at least).

It may look good on the pic but I'm sure I made a lot of mistakes. Or at least used too many polys or something like that. I still have to get adjusted to the destructive workflow of blender.

The textures are not mine, i got them from a nice page where the license allows for any kind of usage. I just put them together by reading how it needs to be in MSFS. But the details how it all works is still very new to me.

This will be the next thing where I want to dive into, doing my own textures. And I guess that will not go as fast as the modeling, because I have nearly no experience about that.

I mean, i was more or less deep into P3D, not developer but tweaking, fixing and simply take apart the whole sim... And i was web/app developer for a decade oder so, so doing IT things and coding, xml stuff etc is familiar. That makes it a bit easier of course.

But overall, in sim dev and Blender I'm a real beginner, yes. Didn't do anything with 3d for over 20 years, like mentioned. Well, i played around with the SDK a bit before, placing standard library objects. But that was really just playing around.

Now the finished tower (last pic pic i will send, no worries :))

Just added stairs and the antenna and light. I guess I leave it like that for now and continue with the buildings.

Btw, this will be Freeware one day. But it will take a while.
