• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

P3D v4 Blender Issue - can't make a solid object

Good afternoon,

Pretty sure that my subject line doesn't quite say what I want it to. I've been following Bill Womack's tutorial on making ground polys. I'm using Blender 2.79 as that what he used in those videos. When I try to trace the apron using vertices, everything seems okay until I press 'F' to fill it. Only part of the object turns grey. If I use my mouse wheel to tilt the image of the airfield, I can see some of the object is tilted. Some of it is below the image, the rest is above.

I guess what I'm trying to ask is - once I have inserted the image of the airfield (file > import > images as planes), how do I follow the next steps of making the base asphalt layer? I've set Z to 0m. To rotate the plane of the airfield, I'm using pressing the scroll wheel of the mouse while dragging the mouse. I rotate it so that the the blue arrow is pointing right at me. The green and red arrows are 90 degrees to each other. I'm in ortho mode. No matter what I do, I can't make it so that the poly I'm making sits flat on the plane of the airport.

I hope that makes sense.

Thanks in advance.

Colin

This is what I get when I try to make a polygon:

I've tried using the snap to surface function, but it seems to attach it to the opposite side only.

I would sugget to rotate the polygon until it is as flat as you can get it with the terrain. Check from all three orthographic angles to adjust the polygon while using x-ray view. Move and rotate as appropriate. Once you are happy with the alignment, then press Ctrl-A and reset rotation and scale. If it attaches to the opposite side only, then you can flip the normals of the polygon.
