• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Blender to FSX Toolset

Did you compile the .MDL using MCX or did you export directly to .MDL with my script ? Because when I load your cab into FSX (albeit as an aircraft), I can see the whole animation, at least the cab doesn't disappear. I have never used SBuilderX though...

I compiled the MDL with MCX,
Does the converter release, of dec 3rd, have already the possibility to export a MDL ??? Missed this hint !!!

I obtained the .mdl via MCX; in MCX the animation works perfectly; I'm still unable to obatin a .MDL via the XtoMDL.exe: just obtain an empty .mdl, as previuously ...

Sorry Felix ... I just discovered that my answer to your above post went lost ...

But ... is the direct export Blender>MDL already in the 3rd December release ??

By the way: I compiled the MDL using MCX (which give a 500kB file) ed inserted in sim using SbuilderX.

As before, if I use XtoMDL.exe (I switch to "Administrator" in windows, otherway I'm not allowed to write in the programs diorectory) what I do obtain is an empty MDL file ...
The consolle view:

XtoMdl /XANIM /DICT:..\..\bin\modeldef.xml /XMLSAMPLE FMB_Cabs_1stLeg.x
Found dictionary file: ..\..\bin\modeldef.xml

Creating output MDL file: FMB_Cabs_1stLeg.MDL

Ciao Paolo,

I made two updates on dec 3rd. If your options don't show "Export MDL", just grab the latest release in the first post. As I have said, your model compiles just fine with XToMdl here. The issue might be with SBuilderX. Do you have another way of placing the cab in the sim?

That the reason I was not having the direct exporter to MDL: I thought I had the last release, since I made the download on dec 3rd :D !

yes I may place the MDL, without SBuilder, using a stright .xml to be compiled with BGLCompiler. (which is actually what Sbuilder does !)

But will trey anyhow ...
thanks a lot ...
Paolo

How is it going, Paolo? Keep me posted on your progress so far, if you please. Would love to see your cab in the sim and functioning ok.

Used the direct exporter from Blender>MDL ... obtained a file FMB_Cab13_1stLeg.mdl (size 522 kB) (In MCX the file shows the whole animation)

Made the FMB_Cab13_1stLeg.xml and compiled the .bgl using BglComp.exe
and obtained the FMB_Cab13_1stLeg.bgl (522 kB) (which show the whole animation in MCX) ...

... but nothing new in the sim: the cab disappear after few seconds :(
:confused::confused::confused:

I tried to place it near KSEA rwy 34R with the standard placement XML but it doesn't even appear. I've put the cab's BGL in the "Addon Scenery\scenery" folder and the texture in the "Addon Scenery\texture" folder. Did I miss something here? Very strange indeed... When I load as an aircraft, I can see the animation working properly. Maybe something to do with LODs...

I don't know how to insert the cableway as an aircraft :) if it works may be I may use your way (but you should axplain to me :) )

The scenery ... I normally a dir let say cablaytest, with two subdir:

cablewaytest
scenery
texture

The .bgl goes in the scenery subdir
The .dds goes in the texture subdir

The cablewaytest dir (and the two subdir's) goes in the dir
Microsoft Flight Simulator X/Addon Scenery

The new scenery must then be activated from the sim (Settings/Scenery Library/Add area ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6BIFHBHrAc

I think I've got a solution. Paolo, try the following: put two small cubes with a material applied, one at the beginning and one at the endpoint of the animation. Don't animate them. Export everything to .MDL...

You are a :wizard::wizard::wizard: !!!!

It WORKS !!!!

I'm quite curious to know how did you arrive to such a solution !!!

Ah ... I do understand: you are a :wizard: :D

And today is Dec the 7th: Official opening Day of the 2013/2014 Skiing Season !!!

The skiers thanks a lot you !

It has probably something to do with the bounding box of the model, or something alike?

That's exactly what I thought when I saw the behavior... Which made me want to push the bounding box to the whole extent of the animation.

BTW. How is your model coming along with my toolset? Any problems yet? I still need to work on those skinned animations, I've found some bugs in my script.

Right! Another problem solved;)

Well, I'm fairly busy in real life now, but I try to do a few thing when I've got time. I'm working on the pilot right now, so this is the progress:)

Congratulazioni! :D :D

Congratulations Scighera!

Hey, guys ... YOU both deserve the congratulations, not me !!! So thanks a lot, once more, to both of you ...

As soon I sent the preview to my "boss" ... he wrote me:
"Paolo ... what if we put for just a while the cableway aside ? I'm modeling the Eiger North Wall ... would you like to model the village of Kleine Scheidegg ?"

And how can I say him no ??? have a look here:

Hey Guys,

first of all thank you very much for the great tool!

Since I just started studying mechanical engineering and we're using CAD software, I tried modeling the Premier 1A.

Now I wanted to animate a very basic gear (two cylinders). In Blender it looks good, but after exporting it messes completely up! The rotation is kind of shearing the wheel.

Is that related to the tool or am I just doing something wrong in Blender? (Movements are all linear)

Hope you can assist!
