• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Blinking Warning Light code?

Hello all,

I am trying to figure out how to write an MSFS template code that would have a blinking light.
I presently use the Safety Emissive template for all my warning lights, but want to have one that also blinks.
This would have;
* L:Var off
* Sim on ground = false
* Altitude = 9,000 feet plus
* Safety system active (Battery)

If those are true, it needs to blink... How on Earth would you enter the blinking part? Is there an Asobo blinking system, or a code to insert into the string that could cause a blinking to occur?

Within a template or component, you can use the <Update Frequency="1">{CODE}</Update> definition to run code periodically. I believe the frequency parameter is in seconds. If all the conditions are satisfied, toggle another local var to control when the light is lit. It would be nice to have a more simple solution but I haven't found anything like that yet.

You can find example of the update code in various Asobo templates. They use it for the initialization of CDIs and things like that.

The Update Frequency function is times per second.

This following code check if the plane is in the air and if it is it removes the aircraft tiedowns.

Code:
        <Component ID="a582_TieDowns" Node="a582_TieDowns">
            <Update Frequency = "5">
                (A:IS USER SIM,bool) if{ (A:SIM ON GROUND,bool) ! if{ 1 (>B:Ants_TieDowns_Dec) } }
            </Update>
            <UseTemplate Name="ASOBO_GT_Visibility">
                <VISIBILITY_CODE>(A:IS USER SIM,bool) if{ (L:Drifter_Prefs_Tie_Downs,number) 1 == if{ 1 } els{ 0 } } els{ 0 }</VISIBILITY_CODE>
            </UseTemplate>
        </Component>

There are many other ways to do a blinking light though.
