• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum

Boolean function in FSDS 3

Has anybody tried the Boolean function in FSDS v3? The tutorial in the help files just has me confused and no matter how hard I try, I can’t subtract a simple box object from the corner of another box object. Sure wish they had used the same procedure as gmax. Any ideas that would help? :banghead:
Thanks,
geocowan

It does work, i just forget wtf i did !

Ill do it again and then post the steps unless someone beats me to it :0)

OK, make a Cube 20*20*20, then make a tube 2*30.

Select the Tube and name it ' tool ' .

Select the Cube and press the spacebar to make it active, now select the Tube and again press the space bar.

You must select the Cube 1st and the Tube ( your tool that does the cutting ) 2nd

Now click on Part in the menu and from the dropdown, click on boolean opperation.

Deselect everything, Now select the Tube and Del it, you will need to do this a few times as it seems to generate several objects in the process untill all you have left is the Cube, you will see a hole drilled throught two of its sides.

compared to Gmax it seems very clumsy i must admit but it does work.

Thanks Jeff,
The step I was missing was deselecting everything after selecting the boolean operation. I'll give that a try.

George

Well Jeff, I must be missing something here. When I finish deleting the tube several times, I end up with a cube with no holes. I was able to do the wing cutout tutorial but not with a cube. What I would like to do is cut a square notch out of the corner of a box. Are you using the Select by Name in the part menu to select the parts to delete? I know it must be something simple I'm missing but I'm just not getting it. :banghead:

Yahoo! I finally got it by using the "part select by name" box to delete the parts. Thanks again for your help.
