• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Boolean Problem

No- and there are other error messages which are not explained either. Evidently there is a book Abacus sells concerning "boolean operations", but right now I can't seem to find it on the Abacus website. It's there somewhere. Will let you know if I find it.

This is Adam's blog site where you can find the book dealing with boolean ops. It is $9.95 in a download pdf if you don't want to have it shipped with charges. I just got one, waiting for my reg key. This is book 3. I have the other two which are great. Clicking on book 3 at this site will take you to Abacus page where I tried looking for it but couldn't find it there... but it is. I'm good at missing stuff on websites! :) Bob

I bought the book, finally. I haven't found the "intersecting' problem yet, but I think it means when one or more lines in the tool or part crouse eqach other. When that happens... for noe I start over with a new tool and watch out for that, if possible.

One item helps. When an error message pops up with "problem with tool or part or both" Try this.

Uncheck all. then let's say problem was with both part and tool this time. Let's start with 'tool'. It is hihlited as current. go to edit and click on "check parts". Yes for all - no for just current. click "no". Found non- planers attempt to fix? say yes.

Do the same with the part if it had aproblem. Then try bool again. Bob

I don't know anything at all about FSDS, but one trick I use in both Max and GMax might be helpful to try...

Select the poly(s) that you need to boolean, make a copy, then perform the boolean cut on them...

If this is successful, delete the original polys, and attach the cut version poly(s) to your original object.

Sometimes when doing a boolean operation, unexpected things might happen far, far away from the poly(s) you actually want to be cut.

Beldon- boolean can be tricky. after the check parts thing if you get "part is non-orientable" you are done for!!!! Start over.

I f a part is booled once, it is dificult to bool it again. Sometimes you can. Try this- Your part is ready to bool. Now- make your tool whatever shape it is to be. Now- if you have to make another cut as well, make another tool. Shape it and position it as well. Join both tools. Now go ahead and bool. Try it. Worked for me. You might get a message about the tool. If you shape it, make it the current part and do a check parts on it. Do the same with the other tool. NOW- go and join them. worked for me. Get book #3. Bob
